Beyonce in Ballet Boots

Recommended Posts

Beyonce just released a video called "Green Light", its pretty sexy and features her wearing some latex outfits. Towards the middle of the video there are a couple scenes with Beyonce and six backup dancers wear ballet boots. I was really surprised to see this!

I did what others probably did too: I went back to that same part and watched it over and over. Amazing feat she did.... yet, I bet everyone was expecting her to walk in them. Am I right? But for me, standing is good enough for me

YESSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!! It seems like 2007 is the year Ballet Heels break into the real world!! FYI, this is the THIRD music vid this year featuring ballet heels... I can't remember who did it first but... Pink has them on in her video for "U and Ur Hand" Christina Aguilerra wore them in her video for "Hurt" And now this Beyonce vid!! Now, even though none of them have 'walked' in them, at least they're present. And Beyonce did a couple of dance moves without support in hers. (Notice they are all holding a bar or something in that vid...Except her for a few seconds...) Man this is turning out to be a GREAT year for those who appreciate ballet heels!!! I hope the trend continues!!

Oh my God! Everyone's saying that! In Pink's video that she wears them too, but I keep missing it. I'm about to watch the video OnDemand (Comcast) right now!

Jarl, You are so right... They're not as mainstream here in the US. Now Christina, Pink and Beyonce are major artists over here, with huge fan bases...We're talking millions of listeners and viewers!! That's what makes their vids so impressive! I don't want to discount the fact that Blue Orchid used them first but I'd never heard of Blue Orchid before they were mentioned on this forum. Are they a real popular group overseas? I surely hope they've got the same level of exposure there as the 'Big Three' I mentioned above do!! :-) HighHeelDude, Did you catch them this time? Look towards the end of the vid...She sitting with a long, black wigs on reading a book...It's a very dark scene...They pan over her a couple times and her total outfit is a black corset, the black wig, I can't remember the bottoms she's wearing and her feet are to the viewer's right as she sitting with the ballet heels visible. I don't recall her standing or walking in them though...

The videos are good eye-candy (if you turn the sound off ;) ) But is the use of ballet boots by mass produced corporate media really such a good thing? This is being done as a "stunt" to grab attention. I seriously doubt these starlets are into fetish. While its fun to watch I think bringing the more extreme fetish stuff into the banal mainstream entertainment waters down its impact as a fetish object. And, lets face it these shoes will never become a fashion choice. They are purely fetish. I want fetish to remain dark and on the fringes of society. Isn't that part of what makes it interesting?

Hello HellOnHeels, To a certain extent I do agree with your statement. However I must also disagree to a certain extent... The problem with 'fetish attire' is that so many people do see it as dark. And unfortunately, many of them equate dark with 'evil.' This has resulted in the stereotype that anyone who is interested or involved in 'fetish attire' or the sexual side thereof, is substandard and demented...AKA a sicko or freak. To those of us who are open enough to share our thoughts on this forum this is obviously an untruth, as the vast majority here appear (at least on the surface...) to be fairly level headed, intelligent and responsible members of society, albeit with a twist. However, there are many people involved in the underworld of fantasy fashion are definitely fringe behavior manifested in many ways. My perspective is that the exposure of this attire by well known celebrities will open the eyes of many who view their works. Ballet boots will certainly be considered fetish attire and non-mainstream for daily use well into the future, however, this exposure will make them less sinister and ridiculous to those who have never experienced the fetish world. As such I am certain that many people will now be more able to express their fetishistic desires to their anticipated participants without hearing "Are you a FREAK OR SOMETHING!!!!!" followed closely by a slamming door... These venues open the possibility to sit with a potential participant, watch a NC-17 rated, mainstream music video, and openly express a desire to try, visualize and emulate what is being viewed without first passing through the www's various porn and hard-core fetish sites. But will these few artists make this fashion 'mainstream' and 'for the masses?' I seriously doubt it will get that far in the near future. However...Extremely tight fitting, nearly to latex tight, clothing is becoming more prominent every year. Women specifically have embraced very tight fashion of many textures. Women's jeans are an excellent example. Most are now produced with stretchable fabrics, containing latex, the enable the clothing to fit very closely to the skin. Skirts have had that hugging effect for years and keep getting shorter it seems. Corsetry has been seen in many movies and videos and is only increasing in exposure. The primary difference between previous videos and what we see in these videos is the primary material changing from satin, leather and PVC to latex. To those who appreciate the tight fitting styles, on either gender, this is a fantastic representation of what we would like to see and experience in a potential partner. These videos decrease their mystery to a degree but still foreshadow their true intentions; to stimulate the wearer, and observer, in a sexual manner. I sincerely hope that what is now a trend does not become heavy mainstream but rather maintains the mystery of seduction...only to a wider audience than ever before!!

I've never been a fan of Ballet Boots, but I am a fan of the lovely Bee, and she does look good in them (as do all the other girls). But notice that the other girls shoes look more extreme than hers.

Very well thought put points Shoeiee. You're right the best outcome of the "mainstreaming" of fetish would be to make the general public more aware of it and less judgemental. Let's hope that is what happens. I don't have high hopes. I guess I recoil from Beyonce in ballets because its so obviously a ploy for more eyeballs. She's used up most vanilla tricks so is resorting to fetish. And, rather than using the fetish imagery in a subtle, somewhat authentic and engaging way she comes across to me as just someone who slapped on a pair of ballets for a quick buck. Smells and looks like a poser. Kind of like cheap crappy porn where a vanilla actress puts on a pair of ballet shoes and the label screams wild and kinky fetish. Contrast Beyonce's use of fetish with what Madonna has done in the past. To me Madonna's use of fetish feels much more authentic especially when you look at all of her work including her SEX book. Fetish is sometimes subtly other times blatently woven into a lot of Madonna's work. Beyonce just comes out of the vanilla world and directly jumps into the hardest core fetish footwear there is. Just feels fake too me. Maybe I'm over-analyzing this. ;)

And think of her other video. I forget the name since it was a while since I've seen it, but she and her "girlfriends" in the video, at the very beginning, struts their stuff in platforms (I'd estimate about 6 in high). Now how about that video? More poses or real stuff?
