F Y I - I will be back shortly

Recommended Posts

Hi guys and dolls:wavey: Mickey is slowly getting back to her driving now, which is good as we need to have someone to be able to drive as there is only the two of us. Her new brace seems to be doing her a lot of good as she only has a bit of pain in her leg once in a while, not 24/7 as before. She still needs a wheel chair for longer distances such as at a shopping maul and her walker for very short distances. The spectre of her leg coming off still looms in the future at this time. Last evening, after a very long period of time, we were able to take our 1935 Chevrolet to a cruise-in and have some good food, good music, and good conversation. We both really enjoyed ourselves as most of our outings lately have been to the doctors, hospitals, re-hab homes, and specialists. Our car is always the hit of the show with everybody. We have a tour coming up in September for a week through Virginia and West Virginia and are hoping that we can make that one for sure as we missed some tours, car shows, and cruise-ins the last couple of seasons. NNow for me!!! IIt seems that Dawn HH will be heading for some sserious surgery on my spine on May 15. I have oosteo-arthritis in my spine in 3 places. The surgeon will go in to put a rod in to bridge the gaps on the spine that are being eaten away. My right leg is too far gone to allow any improvement from the surgery so all they can do is to have me wear a leg brace from the knee down for the rest of my life to allow me to walk in a better fashion. I hate to say it, but I guess my high heel wearing days are coming to an end after being able to do so for many decades. Maybe I still might be able to wear them around the house where I can grab the walls and furniture for support. Time will tell. BUMMER!!! My left leg is starting to go the way of the right one but the surgeon is positive that the spine surgery will improve that and I should be able to walk O.K. again. I can't drive with my leg brace on so I take it with me when I drive and put it on when I park the car. As the Brits would say, both Mickey and I are keeping a stiff upper lip and forging ahead to the future. Cheers--- Mickey68 Dawn HH

Hey friends:-) Mickey had an appointment today at her bone specialist on her leg. He was impressed that her incision has finally completely closed over and has stopped seeping daily. Since this has happened, I don't have to clean and dress it daily and it makes it much easier for her to shower since it doesn't have to be covered when she does. The specialist has also changed his decision that her leg must eventually come off so it can stay on for now. If it begins to open up and seep daily again, we are to contact him immediately about it. So it appears that things are starting to finally look up for a change. So now it has been declared that she can go and get a new pair of diabetic walking shoes. Mickey is happy about that. Sorry---no heels. She is not very happy about that. I don't blame her, I wouldn't be either. Mickey will have to continue to wear her leg brace, but she has started to transfer from a wheelchair to her walker and she has some errands to do tomorrow so it will give her a bit more practice driving while I will be at work. Her next appointment will be on June 26 just two days before our 40th wedding anniversary. As for me, I picked up my leg brace last Thursday and guickly found out that I can't drive with it on. I drive where I am going with the brace on the seat and I put it on when I get there. There is always ways around things, I guess. Cheers--- Dawn HH

 Well friends, Dawn HH has had his major back surgery & is home for his long ROAD TO RECOVERY. The surgery & p/t went well, in fact he was ahead of the schedule for therapy, so that is why he was able to come home in 5 days. Not bad for a 73 old FART!!! TEE HEE He does have a home care nurse & a physical therapist starting this week & after a work out he sure is in a lot of PAIN. But with medication & a lot of TLC that will pass away. Must get around with the use of a walker - so now we have HIS & HER WALKERS. Dawn must wear a back brace till he sees his surgeon on his 2nd visit - he does not sleep in it. It gives him the strength he needs to support his back to stand & move around. So now that since he was fitted with a leg brace & his back brace we are off & running, well maybe not running & surely not STREETHEELING! :o TOOTLES!!! Mickey68 Dawn HH

Hi Ho, everybody:-) On Mickey's latest doctor check-up, her surgeon says that her leg and foot are still looking good and he has temporarily changed his mind and says that she can keep her leg and foot unless things change radically in the future. This is great news for her and changed her attitude considerable for the future. We only hope that these conditions stay the same or improve for later on. Her doctor would never let her have wheels on her walker as he maintained that it would be very dangerous for her. He now has said that she can graduate to a new set of wheels which we have had installed for her the other day. Mickey is quite happy about this. We now have replaced the rear skids on both walkers with nylon and rubber skids which makes navigating in public much easier and now we can have walker races between us. Mickey has had her walker a lot longer than I, but she still losses every time. Mine is the sport model you know and is a bit faster. TEE HEE!!! As for me---I just had my 2nd check-up from my surgeon on the 3rd of July and he says that I am ahead of schedule in my recovery, but must still wear my back brace until my 3rd visit to him on August 15th, He says that I can begin to drive again now. I didn't tell him that I had been driving for about a week before my 2nd appointment out of neccessity. Mickey took out the drain pipe on our rain system backing out of the driveway and damaged the car on one side on one day, had a near miss in traffic the next day, and took out a pole at the drugstore the third day and damaged the other side of the car. She hasn't driven since as I said that I would drive from then on which made our car feel much better about the situation as It begins to shake uncontrollably whenever it hears Mickey say that she may drive that day. TEE HEE!!! We have insurance on everyone else, but since that car is 21 years old, the insurance company won't give us collision insurance on us. That is the car that Mickey prefers to drive as she says that our Marauder is too fast for her to handle, so that is the car that I use. My body man says that to correct both sides of the car will cost us $1,000.00 out of our pocket, (Out of Mickey's allowance). We are both looking forward to our vacation with our 1935 Chevrolet in the first week of September, which isn't all that far off, as we have missed the last 2 years vacations because of health problems, and we expect to be able to go and have a lot of fun doing it. It sure is nice to be able to finally see a light at the end of the tunnel and to know that it isn't the train. TEE HEE!!! Cheers--- Mickey68 Dawn HH :wink1:

Hi everybody!!! Just a quick note to let you all know what has been happening since my last post of August 3rd. Mickey's leg opened up again, but she is doing fine and is healing well. Accomplished some much needed house hold repairs. Our web went out for a period of time and it took forever to get it up and running again. We had to replace some of our equipment. The transmission lines were dug up on two different occasions and may have to be dug up once again. We have been rushing the final repairs on our 1935 Chevrolet so that it would be ready for this years Early Six-Cylinder Tour with the Vintage Chevrolet Club. I have been busy packing the car and we leave for the tour tomorrow Friday, September 5th. So we will be off the web until we get back and I can catch up once again on my posting with you all. It seems that all I get done lately is catching up on my posting. Heres to happy motoring, we hope, and to future posting when we get back home again. Chers--- Dawn HH Mickey68

Good news to all--- We are back from the Early six cylinder tour with the Vintage Chevrolet club of America. With all of our physical problems we have had in the last couple of years, it was good that we could get away and enjoy another trip with all of our friends on the tour that we hadn't seen for quite a while. Mickey's leg once again has healed over and looks good. She has had her appointment with her surgeon since coming back and he is pleased with her progress and we are hoping for the status quo on it for the future. Our tour car is 74 years old and performed flawlessly and extremely well for the 1,000 miles we put on it from the time we left home until we returned. We climbed the highest mountains in Penna., Maryland, West Virginia, and Virginia in high gear. We went through the rains of Hurricane Hanna on the way down and through the rains of Hurricane Ike on the way back, having to pull of of the Interstate for an hour and a half because it rained so hard that I couldn't see to drive and our windows were steaming up. To make things worse, one of our headlights and one of our taillights burned out and made driving even hairier. After the rain lessened we were able to continue our journey home without incident. We won an award at a car show on the way down in Stevens City, Virginia at White Post Restorations, (again in an all day rain), and another award on the tour for the most popular car and co-geneality couple. We are back and I am slowly cleaning up the car a bit each day back to its former glory. I am able to return back to work at the Science Center starting on Monday, the 22nd after being off for 4 months for my back surgery. It will be good to be back and the trains need my expertise in their repairs. As soon as I get rested up a bit more, I will return to my posting on the HH Place. Cheers--- Dawn HH Mickey68

Good to hear you're both safe and sound. Even better that you had a good trip despite the hurricanes. Best of all is hearing you are back to work, and looking to post here again soon. Glad to have you back DawnHH and Mickey

Dawn and Mickey -

It's absolutely great to hear that your back from your long trip and that all is going well (with both of you and the car). And speaking for a bunch of neglected Lionel trains, its great that you are back at the Science Center.

Your both in my thoughts a lot,

Dave

Shyguy:-) Thanks ever so much for your Birthday greetings. In one way today is a very special day and in other ways just an ordinary day for Dawn HH. Both Mickey and I had early afternoon doctor appointments and then I came home and cleaned up the leaves and cut the grass. Then I topped it all off by collecting and putting out the garbage for tomrrow and now I'm posting to all of you guys and gals. One more year to make three quarters of a century. Cheers--- Dawn HH
