The Adventures of kneehighs...

kent was in town from Shanghai for the holidays so we were able to meet up at the last minute. First we met up at Barnes and Noble in Chelsea. From there we spent the rest of the evening at One in the Meatpacking District.

This is what it looked like at dinner time:

And another one of me in Times Square after the night at ONE was over:

--Seven New York Dark jeans

--Ralph Lauren knee high boots or Nine West 4" pumps

--Armani sweater with asymmetrical buttons along shoulder line and grommet buttons along each wrist.

--experimental one half of oxford shirt layered underneath sweater

--Linea Pelle woven leather wide belt

Anyway, thought the pics would make for some good entertainment value as the night was a spectacular success.

Great pics kneehighs. Like the look. Inspiring! Looking forward to NYC! Flying out today (Tuesday). Already, been searching the internet for Payless and other stores. :D Luckily we have one on our doorstep where we are staying as well as a few good ones to choose from in NY. Looking forward to meeting you Wednesday evening. Love the Times Square shot! I remember seeing it for the first time in this July. Breathtaking!

Thanks kneehighs for meeting up at the last mintue. This is a last minute trip for me to visit NYC. It's so much fun to people watch the trendy crowd and their shoes (mostly stilleto's)! Not to mention we were wearing them too. Will definite go clubing in heels next time too. Now that i have street heeled in new york and Bristol. Are there enough people in Asia for a heely meeting? Next time, I will try to post earlier to call another NYC heel meet.

pam heel-d and I are meeting at Spice Market on Wed at 8:00 pm. You are welcome to come.

everybody thanks for the compliments on the pics! The Meat Packing District here is truly an awesome place to dine and view the scenery. Alot of the women look like they are dressed straight from the pages of Vogue or Elle.

kent After staying out till 4 in the morning, can you believe I still completed a full day of work after rising at 6:30????

I actually just found the website for ONE. According to the 5-23-04 New York Post, their drink menu is ,"a recipe for naughty behavior. Beware." LOL

Thanks Jeff. Casual is "me." I'm working on getting a shrunken tuxedo blazer jacket, some matching pants, a tuxedo top (you know the kind with the extra embroidery around the chest area) for a more formal outfit.

That will be about as formal as you will catch me when not working.

Well, it was fun meeting you last week kneehighs. It was a very nice meal and it was great to meet someone else with the same passion for shoes as I have. Unfortunately I wasn't wearing the boots I had with me (didn't have time to change) and I was in my trainers (sneakers) as me and my girlfriend were walking around Manhattan all day. You definitely have a good style when it comes to shoes and clothes. Anyway, you were right about DSW on Union Square. I ended up buying a pair of black stilletto ankle boots and a gorgeous pair of black round toe Franco Sarto pumps! Both are very comfortable to wear. There was also a pair of flats which unfortunately they didn't have in my size and a great pair of patent black CK slingbacks which didn't sit right with me when I tried them on but they were beautiful shoes! I will post pictures of my new shoes and outfits soon. I'm definitely looking around for inspiration now. When I'm in Manhattan again I will let you know and we should meet again.

We can definitely meet again, just please let me know when your coming round. With some advance notice, we might be able to round up some other locals to meet up too. Pam actually called us that night, but for whatever reason, my phone didn't ring! Glad you had a good shopping experience at DSW. Great place there. And looking forward to seeing your new outfit -- not just the shoes, but whole outfit. :D p.s. thanks for the compliments

I don't know if it was the effect you've use to change the image or the camera moved when taking the shot, but the girl with black boots seems to have big feet! Like mine :D

Today (Sunday) I had a few returns to make in the Astor Place area of the Village. First stop was the Gap to return a tuxedo blazer that was too big for me.

Next stop was Starbucks right next to the 6 train subway exit. I walk up to the counter and ask for my Grande Mocha. African American guy next to me drops his money on the floor, picks it up, and goes back to his two other friends that were standing back from the counter. I turn around after the barista swipes my Amex and the guy who dropped his money is staring right at me. He said, "I'm sorry". I didn't say anything back, but I could read the embarrassment in his red face. So I went and stood right at the counter for all three guys to see my Ralph Lauren Alston boots. All of them are looking at me and down at my shoes. The way I see it, "good. The more people see a guy decently dressed in heels as a man and acting normal, the better the chances of getting this niche accepted." Get my mocha, go and sit and people watch, then leave.

Next stop was t-shirt shopping in the East Village. Need a shirt with some embroidery/design to wear beneath my tuxedo blazer. Shopped for a couple of hours then returned home.

I also saw a guy crossing Broadway and East 8th. He was Asian. About 5'6" tall. He was wearing a black leather studded jacket. AND, a black mini skirt, black tights, and black gothic (non platformed) knee high boots. His whole head was bald with the exception of the one 6" spike coming out of the center at the top of his head. Too bad I didn't have my camera then!

Kneehighs:-) That was quite an adventure and reaction you got from those guys. If the one had not dropped his money he may not have noticed what you had on your feet. BTW:-) I noticed that you have changed your Avatar pic. Anyone we know? Cheers--- Dawn HH.

If anyone is interested in seeing pics of the Mar 05 street heeling meet and reading how the laws in nyc protect the rights of street heeling men, please click here. The laws are so favorable that for example, you can sue for being denied access to an upscale hotel, restaurant, or theater and WIN.

this is pretty boring really

For the last 4/5 days I've been stiletto street heeling. Subways, libraries, starbucks, deli's, Barnes and Noble, wine glass shopping, Filene's basement shopping, up steps, down steps...and this is what I've learned:

I can feel masculine or feel feminine at will. Personally, I believe the two can co-exist. There are more ways to be masculine than the common knee jerk social construct might suggest. That construct is most often stated as

IF/THEN:

"If you are masculine, then you are NOT feminine.

CONTRAPOSITIVE OF IF/THEN

"if you are feminine, then you are not masculine."

EITHER/OR FALSE REASONING

"You are either feminine or masculine, but not both."

To paraphrase the above, "You can only be masculine if you are NOT feminine" or "Being masculine totally depends on being NOT feminine." The problem with this common knee jerk reaction is that it assumes that masculinity and femininity can't co-exist in one person at one time.

There are so many ways I love feeling masculine: being successful, being educated, being competitive, seeking status, seeking power, being aggressive, being assertive..etc...etc...

Much like tyinng a pair of shoes is an unconscious effort, these are traits that I unconsciously carry with me throughout the day. Regardless if I am in pointy toe stiletto high heels or flat boardroom style shoes. While in high heels, I can still choose to be masculine or feminine depending on which attitude is most useful for the context I find myself in. I have the flexibility to pick when I want to feel "girly" (I know this sounds crazy, but when I go out and all the women are wearing stilettos and I am too, I feel like one of the club) and when I want to feel masculine based on whichever attitude is more useful for the context I am in.

Other than that, my recent stiletto heeling has been very uneventful, but I promise, when pam and I get together, we will rip this town apart!!

Right pam!

I've been wearing my stiletto knee boots now for the last 6/7 days. Day and night. Other than a blatantly obvious "hey, look at the guy in heels" double take I had on the subway from a couple of girls, I've had absolutely no signficant responses to my heels. In fact, at Starbucks on Park Avenue South and 29th, I was chattted up by an attractive and friendly girl who was studying for her GMAT's. We shared a table (tables and seats are like real estate, a high demand commodity with limited supply). My heels were in full view of her, but I carried on the conversation with nonchalant regard to my heels and no mention of them was made. At ONE last night, I talked to a woman who was a professional buyer for Eileen Fisher. They way I met her was fun. She was wearing silver heeled stilettos with a baby doll toe. She had her shoe tucked into near her crotch at her bar stool. I asked, "Are those steel heeled daggers you are wearing?" "I don't know?" she said, then she started to feel them and knock them with her knuckles to figure out. She said, "Here, feel them..." lol When the coversation eventually turned to my outfit and after seeing my heels, she said, "they are from the mens department I presume..." to which I replied, "not this time. From the womens side actually. Is that bad?" (not that I really believe its bad mind you). She said, "No, not at all. It works" And that's from a professional in the fashion industry. There was another twin set of girls from Mendoza Argentina and Amsterdam. I got to talking with them, and they liked my outfit. Shoes included. After our conversation was over, they asked for my phone number and business card. I remember one time the girl from Mendoza looked at my shoes and changed her whole demeanor. From a relaxed spine to an upright feminine posture, from relaxing her chest area, to holding it out more. That was an interesting response.

Kneehighs, Sounds like that girl from Mendoza suddenly became self-concious, or perhaps a friendly competition as to who looked better in stilettos. The other possibility is that she wanted to all of a sudden look her best for you. :D Nice one from the buyer too.

Danielle, if you can survive Katrina I think you could wear shiny silver stilettos in shorts down main street in Chicago. Kidding, but your spirit has to be indomitable and I respect that. If you're ever in nyc, let me know. We can ham it up! The new av is a pic of 4 woman. Its from a yahoo group that I can share with you in a pm if you want the link.

I shall take you up on that offer! I don't know when I'll be able to get out to NYC, but I'd love to visit some day. As time passes, I'll make my trip to North Carolina to visit a friend in Raleigh and one in Charlotte, both of whom I've told about my heel-wearing, but haven't seen it yet. After that, who knows? After (finally!) making it to downtown Chicago yesterday, walking the Magnificent Mile, and seeing some of the sights around the city, I think I kinda like the whole big city thing. My only opposition is the inability to find good parking without going into a lot - in New Orleans, there was ample street parking for walking around downtown. I'm living with someone atm, and both space and cash are limited, so heels have taken a seat on the backburner for now. But the stories you guys tell around here keep the fire going!

Well this Saturday I found myself at ONE again. Ask Pam or Kent, 85% of all the women here wear stilettos! It makes for some magnificent fun, especially when you are one of the people wearing stilettos. I got there around 8:30 p.m. because the bouncers won't let single men in by themselves past 9:00 pm unless a single man is accompanied with a woman, you won't get past the "velvet rope" doormen. Of course I was wearing my stiletto pumps. Add a black waffle textured shrunken blazer, black trousers from Zara that were immacutely pressed and my wrinkled Calvin Klein shirt underneath and I was good to go.

So I got in and the first thing I did was order a cheese platter. It was delicious. I shared it with the bartender too. She was really friendly and even researched the different kinds of cheeses on the plate so as to educationally enhance our dining pleasure.

This is what the dance floor looked like early on in the evening:

I talked to this girl from Jersey. She was wearing some really hot knee high stiletto boots in a size 7.

Here she is getting me a drink. Thats the nice thing about professional women. They share the cost of socializing.

Yes, my ass actually looks this good in my jeans. Gotcha, I was wearing black Zara pants but I couldn't take my eyes of this girls beauty:

Can you tell which shoe is mine and which one belongs to the women?

Here is my black pump "copping a feel" from some hot blonde. This is soo cheesy, I can't believe I actually took a pic of it, but I figured you guys would appreciate it.

Some girl from Toronto I talked to. I didn't even talk about shoes with her. Didn't need to bring it up at all actually, as I find is more often than not the case:
