This is a cut-and-paste from the old board. --------------------------------------------------------- Posted by xaphod on October 22, 2005, 10:37:39 Now, Doc S was talking about a heelmeet in London in November. Just because the hhplace is playing silly b.s doesn't mean that we can't keep the idea active here. Time is getting closer and to avoid a last-minute rush (and people not being able to organise holiday at short notice ... see I havn't forgotten you Daz), it might be an idea to start the ball rolling here. I suggest we make it a Saturday this time. -------------------------------------------------------------- Posted by Calv on October 25, 2005, 17:45:42, in reply to "London heelmeet in November ?" Hi Xaphod Great idea, would be able to do November 19 or 26. Whats happened to hhplace? Calv ------------------------------------------------------------ Posted by Heelfan on October 25, 2005, 20:02:39, in reply to "Re: London heelmeet in November ?" Count me in on either date - the sooner the better! Regarding HH Place, in the longish thread below, I've asked Firefox if he can find out from Jeff what's happening. Cheers, Heelfan ------------------------------------------------------------------ Posted by xaphod on October 26, 2005, 8:07:18, in reply to "Re: London heelmeet in November ?" OK, guys. Usual place usual time, 1100. Starbucks opposite Centre Point, Tottenham Ct Rd. I'll send Daz a text to say what we're up to. Xa --------------------------------------------------------------- Unfortunately the Garbage System for Mobiles bounced Daz's text back, but hopefully he finds this here. Xa

thanks for the offer xa, will consult with Si as we had planned to drive to stevenage and train in from there. current train tickets from doncaster were lookin at 50 quid return each, where as were guessin a tank of £30 diesel and a cheap stevenage return should save us some pennies daz

Questions! 1. Can anyone get me an address so I can GPS / Mapquest the location? 2. It's nearly 9 hours by car, and I don't think I can take off on Friday to get there early. Anyone know of some good shuttles between Frankfurt and London? Also, what's the cheapest way to get from Heathrow to the location? Bus? Tube (underground)? Combination? 3. Where's a cheap place to stay in London? I'm near broke! 4. Any chance on doing something Sunday morning, too, such as a museum trip, steak and egg breakfast, etc.? Sort of turn it into a Sat aft / Sun morn gig. Unless I'm flying, I won't be pushing it up Sat evening, that's for sure... Thanks!

A good way to get from Heathrow to Tottenham Court Road is to take the Underground Piccadilly line (Dark Blue) to Leicester Square and then change for the Norhern line (Black) to Tottenham Court Road. Come to the surface there and you will find yourself at a large crossroads. In the SE corner is a tower block (centre point) and in the NE corner you will see Dorthy Perkins and further east, Starbucks. Wait outside the centrepoint underground exit. You wont need GPS to find it ;)

Ok. Despite the very long hours, I've decided to drive.

I need a good (cheap, but secure) place to park in London where I can take the underground for the rest of my destinations. I plan to buy an underground/bus pass for the weekend.

If anyone has an exact address for this, it would be nice. Again, my GPS knows addresses quite well (with 100 meters). General directions such as have been given confuse it immensely!

If you are parking in Stevenage, try the fox road/penn road area. 5 Minutes from the station and free with spaces available, unlike the rip off long stay car parks.

Do you have a street/mailing address, Firefox? My GPS does wonders with things like "1800 South Main, London, etc." but hasn't a clue as to less general terms.

And how much is it for two nights parking?

Thanks!

PS - anyone in the city got a place to stay? If so, please let me know. The only alternative is, at the very least, a $60 overnighter, or at worst, a 70E and very long train ride to the nether regions (to be repeated the next day).

Just like us Americans, though - always want it now, fast, and cheap... !

Unbridled Enthusiasm

Xaphod is chatting on Amateur Radio this morning with the military vehicle crew on the south coast.

Telephone rings,

Hi, X, it's Si. Have you heard from Daz? I can't get hold of him and I've decided to make my own way.

OK Si ..... funny, Daz is pretty reliable. I'm a bit busy at present, could you ring me back in an hour when I've finished with the radio net.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Xaphod rings Si. Car noises, choppy signal.

Hi, Si. Where are you?

I'm on the M1 (big north/south motorway/traffic jam in the UK). I can't get in touch with Daz. We agreed to meet up at Meadowhall, but it's a big place ....

Hang on Si, where are you going?

We were going to meet up, share a car and drive down to London of course.

But Si, the heelmeet is NEXT Saturday !!!!

Xaphod takes time out for uncontrollable laughter.

Ideas???

Sounds like jumping the gun to me!!!

Can't wait to meet you Si, X, and Daz!

Until then...

Yeah. And someone's going to have to pour me back on the airplane. Any takers?

Mostly kidding, of course.

You know what I'm craving during this meeting?

Turkey or beef-pot pie.

Seriously, folks. I just looking towards some good old-fashioned drink, hearty food, and comraderie. Kicking a few back with my mates from over the years, and generally getting on with life.

See you then!

I must extend my apologies, I won't be attending as funds are forthcoming at the moment. Other words, I didn't sell the PA system in time  But, you never know, a miracle might happen yet and I could surprise you all ;) Have fun if I don't make it !

I'm trying to book the hotel, but no combination of numbers I'm dialing is getting me through.

Anyone know how to dial to London from Germany?

Thanks!

00 44 20 77235656 is the number you need to call.

Looks like Erotica is definitely for the well-heeled. Admission fee on Saturday is £24.50. Ouch!!! Needs to be a good show to justify THAT amount of cash. Costing more than my train fare. Calv/Xaphod

Do your own thing. Don't be a victim of conformity.
