Having your wife do it is not really "self-sustainable".  Now if you did yourself, then I would agree.

If it were totally up to me I would have just grown my hair out or put it in a ponytail or braids years ago.  But she won’t let me do something that “girly”... go figure lol.

Well, the Philadelphia area came out of lockdown on a somewhat limited basis this past Friday, meaning retail stores could reopen. I wandered downtown on Saturday (non-jaunt) to see what was what, however, because of the riots here last weekend, practically nothing was open and EVERY storefront was boarded up. My god, I had never seen so much plywood in any one area in all my life. Bottom line, jaunting downtown looks to be a nonstarter for awhile. That leaves the malls I frequent, I'll travel to King of Prussia this coming weekend and see what's up there.

Virtual Jaunts @JeffB, virtual jaunts.  But now they will be practice since it's been awhile. Two three virtual jaunts and you'll be ready for when it opens more. Virtual Jaunts.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's further trouble this weekend, certainly the case in the UK. Virtual Jaunts of what you could have worn / are wearing are in order :)

Suppose I have been fortunate. My area is solidly conservative, and quite well armed to boot, so nothing is going to happen anywhere near me. I ran into a county sheriff  while waiting outside wingstop for lunch today. He hasn't seen anything to worry about. We had a normal conversation. Well, as normal as you can be while wearing a green striped blouse, grey slim fit trouser pants, and my black Jessica Simpson pumps...;-)

Sounds like Soho in Manhattan.  Or Bedford Avenue in Williamsburg.  They really look more like apocalyptic movie sets.  Not suitable for romantic heeling walks at all.

I have been to Paris today

4 months I hadn’t.
What a surprise!

No traffic, much less noise, much lees bad smell

But the most noticeable is all people in shops, restaurants are so nice, helpful, polite. Everything we weren’t used to.
It’s pity you foreigners can travel yet. You could forget our lengendary arrogance

Please come and visit us as soon as you can before we fall back in our ways.

I have found that in our area, people are either way nicer than normal, or way nastier than normal. There seems to be no in between. I'm glad that Paris seems to have gotten the way nicer end of the spectrum!

CHrisPap,

One would think with my classic French surname that I would have made it to France a long time ago but it didn't happen until December of 2012. Had some business in London and took the train over and spent the entire day in Paris. From my Algerian taxi driver to various folks in restaurants and two fellows in a pricey shop where I tried on some heels just before closing I encountered nothing but friendly and engaging people. Don't know if it was a rare day or they just reacted well to French with a Quebecois accent to it. I have heard over the years of Parisians being arrogant or snooty because your French isn't like theirs or some such nonsense. I encountered none of that. As my taxi driver put it something like "The long-lost cousin finally makes it to the dinner invitation. What the hell took so long?" I do think a common ancestry and being conversant in the language made an enormous difference but so does a positive attitude. I think also a certain event not long ago where three average Americans from Sacramento, CA made a very positive impression in France. People remember these things. I will definitely return to France with my wife and spend much longer there. ;-) HinH

Trump is allegedly seeking to ban gender non-conforming people from homeless shelters.  Yes, that could arguably mean a man who wears high heels as a man.

Best bet is don't wear heels to the shelter.

I haven't done my due diligence on this (don't have time sooo busy working).

If this becomes an issue, would anyone here be interested in creating a Go Fund Me for any hhplace members-- assuming a post history proves evidence qualifies-- that might be affected?

This guy is a clown. I used to be a registered republican, hated it but i did vote for Hillary. Trump was elected due to both parties inability to work together. Even an outsider in republican circles. Bothers me how the party threw away any semblance of morals when he won its primary. They didn't want him, but threw themselves at him to defeat the dems no matter the cost. I'm embarrassed by the current U.S. political system. Every time I keep thinking ut can't get worse and it does. Trump could be the pinnacle of bad, but all the dems can do is give us Biden. Lots of skeletons there too. I ramble, but we need a fresh start, a young, intelligent non partisan who can lead from the center, either party.

That’s an interesting spin.  I’ll be sure to keep wearing heels when I go volunteer at the homeless shelters and see if I get turned away.  If so I guess we‘ll know where their hearts truly lie.

It’s good to keep revolution at least in the back of our minds.  But party tension plays a role in protecting us from authoritarianism and fascism.  All leaders, young, old, smart, and stupid, need to be checked.  Countries in the world right now ruled by a single “centrist” party are not countries of prosperity.

Mistook my meaning, centrist by not being far left or far right. I'm not abdicating single party system by any means. However both parties have have strayed so far off center, dems are almost socialist and republicans are almost neo. We need to meet in the middle to get things done. Trump was elected due to his outsider status, problem is he can't get off his "all about me" mentality. He actually was not right wing until he realized how easy it was to polarize people, but he did it to get elected.

Centrism has an important role, but in the United States it cannot be the only driving force in governing.  Since the founding, the US has been a pluralist union, and we share this land with all sorts of people, on opposite "poles" of many kinds.  We would give any president too much credit if we claim that they created the polarization.  People have been polarized, right or wrong, for generations.  For some things, where there is widespread consensus and overarching impact on everyone, it makes sense for everyone to compromise and be governed by the majority.  But in other things, the minority should not be marginalized, and we have to learn how to coexist.  Historically, it seems neither political party has been particularly good about protecting minorities, and that is because of centrism.  They finally jump in when the conscience of the majority finally makes it an issue for everyone, and then it finally becomes politically advantageous.  Centrism is also a key CAUSE of the political apathy we are mentioning here.  When both parties sound, look, and stand for the same thing, having both moved to the center, people quit engaging in politics because a vote for either side is meaningless.

Take high heels, for example.  The centrist majority says women wear high heels, men wear flats.  I would not hold my breath for this to be overturned any time soon, nor should I embark on a crusade to change this.  But I am free to hold the minority practice of a man wearing heels, and I reject any centrist majority's attempts to change my practice.

That might be a useful metaphor for personal change for some!
