What Would You Do?

Recommended Posts

I know this sounds ' political ', but quite a few of you in the U.S. are going to be facing this dilema weather you like it or not. I usually have a disclaimer of things being ' satyr ' when Im goofing around, but I could only wish this wasnt a real concern. Its a real concern not just for myself, but for many others out there, some of which dont even know if they are going to get ' dropped ' or where they will be in the next 2 years.

I was notified this past monday that I needed to check into the New York State exchanges as my medical insurance was forced to be cancelled by law.

Mind everyone, The Policy I had for myself and my employees covered quite a bit and we all loved it! The Co-pays and deductibles were really low ( at most 10$ for the prescriptions ) and even going through Chemotherapy WITH the hospital stay wasnt ' bankrupting '. I would go as far as to say it wasnt bad at all as I was still able to afford a wedding the same year.

The part that galls me the most right now is the supposed ' plans ' (sic) that are being offered have things *I* dont need.

What do *I* need pre-natal care for? My Wife? SURE! If she didnt have a hysterectomy years ago. ' Free birth control '.. Again, wife cant get nocked up so.. its of little use!

It gets much better though.

' Farms ' usually operate as whats called an LLC or ' Limited Liability Corporation '. It makes doing financial and legal matters easier and more fluent/faster. Its a needed necessity ( evil ) as sometimes you need a loan, FAST  when equipment breaks. You HAVE to make your harvest or your bankrupt.

Most are lead to believe LLC's are all about ' rich ' folks when such isnt a good perception at all.

Point being, I have a choice to make.

I can go for choice#1 : My wifes company dropped ' dependent ' coverage plans and only covers employees now. Not their spouses nor kids. Thus, I can buy a ' plan ' for just ' myself '. The wife has been notified that she might loose her job as the company she is at *might* downsize in order to avoid all the fines that are specified in the recent ' legislation '. It would be best to look forward and just snag a plan that covers both of us and not pay where she works anything or even ask to be in their ' group plan '. It would make her more viable for employment in her future as well ( company doesnt have to worry about her medical insurance ). Im comparison, my old plan for her and I ran 550$ a month. This new ' trash plan ' has a 6000$ deductible and will cost 700$-ish a month!

-OR-

I can go for choice#2 : Tell the idiots that pushed this trash upon everyone to " leave me out of your problems " and just do a personal ' opt out ' and see where it goes.

From speaking with others, it seems theres quite a few people whom are going with option#2. Its where I borrowed the entity of ' personal opt-out ' from.

What would you choose to do?

Number #2, if it even applied to me. I don't make enough money to be able to even enroll in the new healthcare program. I'm exempt because I don't make enough money.

I am among the working poor.

For those that are poor and think the new healthcare law is going to help you, think again. You as well as the middle class are going to be royally screwed. All the while the rich will be lining their pockets with your money.

From what little I have looked over, the options are not good. My 'portion' of what I pay has gone up drastically, but since I know what my "little fiasco" would have cost me, I guess I shouldn't be whining.

Obamacare is not going to be the social savior it was hyped to be. It will not help the situation as I see it.

Washington is hoping this will all be too entrenched before the next big election cycle.

Just hange loose for a couple of years. We'll have a " single payer" system by then and no one will need any health insurance. All your health care will be provided and controlled by the government, just as it is in the UK. Problem solved.

Being mentally comfortable in your own mind is the key to wearing heels in public.

Im in the same boat of sorts. Im on a salary BUT I have association with an LLC. My base pay would be comparable to somewhere around 8$/hr. I DO have the benefits of not needing any utilities outside of electricity ( water and natural gas come right from the ground to my house ). Food is grown here or bartered for.

$ on paper, I SHOULD hit the ' lower tier ' or qualify for it, but not legally so.

Yep. The consequences are those of us whom arent rich, whom work for a living ( and always have ) are going to experience ' social justice ' as its always been preached for.

Thats exactly what Im afraid of. I had NO problems with the medical system that existed. Now? Im forced into waiting lines, to pay for things that dont even effect myself or family..

I think there will be armed revolution before a ' single payer ' system ever happens.

I don't begin to understand the vaguaries of American healthcare, neither do I know what a single payer system is.  But I do want to say that over here we're very fond of our National Health Service.  It's not true to say that it's controlled by the government. Certainly it's funded through taxation.  It's not perfect, often meanly underfunded and creaking at the seams, but nothing's perfect.  When I had a potentially life threatening illness some years back I was treated promptly, skillfully and kindly.  Living alone it was great solace to know that there'd be no financial impact beyond the taxes I already pay.  Had I not got ill I would have counted myself blessed and been happy that others had been treated.

I don't suggest that you'd want our system.  One man's meat...  But were any of you to fall ill or be injured while visiting here you would be treated just the same.  I feel we can be proud of that.

Right now my wife's work still offering plans for dependents but raised the price to $100 per pay period. I have yet to compare to what is being offered by Obama care, it sounds that I am better off to stay with my wife's insurance next year. The are a lot more health issues coming around the corner (issues with GMO food) for everybody and people are going to be pissed. Only time will tell...

There are so many aspects of oun new health care system that remain a mystery. The scarey fact is that the people that run the program will not or cannot answer our questions or provide guidance. It's almost as they are making it up as they go along. Needless to say, that kind of leadership does't instill confidence in our citizenry. This situation would be downright humorous if so many people didn't depend on good health care to save their lives.

A ' Single payer ' system is one like you have. The Government taxes people a certain way. Everyone pays for ' themselves '. As you are, so are many Canadians with their system. I do know of one whom I will speak of later on in this post whom.. shall I say is ' no longer Canadian '.

I went through Chemo last year and again for a second stint. My ' non-governmental ' system worked just fine for me. Physical Therapy and all. I was able to tailor things to the times *I* was available. I was able to see the Doctors whom I felt comfortable with and go to the Hospitals I wished to, not where I was directed.

Right now my wife's work still offering plans for dependents but raised the price to $100 per pay period. Thus why I grow and slaughter most of my own. Tap water in the city is done through a sewage treatment with chlorines and fluorides.

Be thankful your wifes policy is going up 200-400$ ( depending on how her pay periods go ) a month instead of what I have seen from MANY people.

I think people are worried about the US gov't running a healthcare system since we hear bad things about the VA system, and know how bad the DMV is to deal with.

I used the V.A. System in Buffalo and their sister system in Batavia N.Y. . I wound up leaving their system when I took over the Business I ran.

My BIGGEST concern was with the Staff.

At the time, hardly any of them had English as their first language. MANY of the staff were interns from the many medical Schools Buffalo N.Y. has. Quite a few of the doctors whom were on the staff were there solely because of malpractice. They couldnt get a job in the private sector. Mind everyone, that was many years ago and I will NOT go back to them ever again.

Those wild stories about the V.A. where people go in for something and something gets done wrong.. I KNOW a guy whom went in for knee surgery. They opened up his knee, did some exploratory looking, found nothing wrong and put him in recovery. WRONG KNEE! They looked at his GOOD knee!

Change the theme to a new car. You and I build this ' wonder car '. It comes in every color, 2/4/all wheel drive, 4/6/8/10 cylinder engines or electric if you desire! Put whatever tires on it you want.. But the price will vary depending on how much you make, nothing is considered if you have wrecked 50 cars last week or were drunk doing it.. or even if you have 2 or 100 years of experience..

Its unbelievable how DUMB people are to actually buy off into this whole ACA crap. People actually BELIEVE this is going to just ' work ' after a certain period of time?

Theres 2 solutions to this ' ACA ' problem. Scrap the whole thing and go back to how it was or do an open and honest government takeover to a single payer system. The shitpile that exists right now is NOT going to work and I', not going to participate in it.

Above/Earlier I mentioned a ' Canadian '. I met him about 10 years ago in a Hockey league.

He was playing on the other team and one of the guys on my team decided to goad them into penalties. He called the guy a ' Stupid Canadian ' to which the guy went nuts! Tossed his mitts and started swinging at my friend. Actually beat him up pretty good.

The next season, I wound up on the same team as that ' Canadian ' and I asked him why he took offense to such a remark?

His story is rather simple. I might leave out some things.. been quite a few years since Ive mentioned this in any great detail..

He was having these nosebleeds. Once a week or something. He went to the local doctors and they decided he needed to see a ' specialist ' or something. It was a week away. During that week, he played a few games ( Hockey ) and was hit pretty hard a few times. He had a headache and some bruising and had a nosebleed one night that was pretty messy. Destroyed his pillow.

He sees this ' specialist ' and they tell him he needs to have a nasal passage cauterized. Less then a week later, its done.

Fast forward a month or so. Hes dating a babe in the states that hes known for many years. Co-worker. Hes at the game and he has this headache and his nose starts bleeding. He leaves, she takes him over the bridge, back to Canada.

The doctors see him the next morning and schedule him for an MRI. 3 weeks is the nearest appointment.

American Thanksgiving happens before then and he was eating dinner and started having a nose bleed. He falls face first into his dinner. His girlfriend and her family rush him to ECMC of Buffalo.

She ( Girlfriend ) told them of the symptoms he has been having the last 4-6 months and how they cauterized his nose and how he still has the nosebleeds..

Less then an hour later, hes conscious and having an MRI done.

They found a tumor. Cancerous. Inside his head. Somewhere to do with his sinuses.

He takes the results back with him to Canada and theres some disputes with his bills from the hospital in the States and the Canadians had to organize something so he could go to a cancer facility... I dont have all the details and I dont want to know. Not my business. ;)

What finally happened was he sold his house and moved to the States. He married his girlfriend and was in Roswell of Buffalo inside of a week and taken care of. The Canadian system at the time almost killed him.

On a DAILY basis, anyone can go to ECMC of Buffalo and see the parking lot full of Canadian plates on the cars.

If the system was sooo bad that the ACA was needed, why is it people from all over the world would come here for medical treatment? Thats all I want to know. Anyone can say the old system ' sucked ' or was ' horrible ', and deny that ECMC is full of Canadian patients.. but can they really prove it?

More and more people are starting to see the ACA for what it really is. Its a hostile take-over of the U.S. medical industry. Its a measure to destroy something and replace it with a government system that ( like all of the U.S. Government programs ) will be inefficient, full of outright lies, and not help anyone.

I need to call Brett. See if he wants to go be a ' Canadian ' again ;)

IMO, Obama wants this to be a fiasco just so the government has a reason to take the whole deal over. Have the government take over the health care and just tax the hell out of us that work and everyone gets "free" healthcare.

I hope the next president has the balls to just dump this whole deal.

Im going to try and put perspective on this from my viewpoint.

By the time I was 13, I was slinging plaster. I was a stoner by night in my late-teen years but I always bought my own weed/hash with money I earned. I did a sting in the Armed Services but afterwards, I went right back to working 40+hr weeks. I then took over one family business and ran it for over a decade ( 60+ hr weeks ). I closed that Business and now Farm. Farming is the hardest and most time consuming job I have ever taken on. 12-16hr days, theres seldom a day off and its a 10 month process for each crop. The 2 months off are spent doing maintenance.

I spent the last 30 years of life working hard, so someone else can have their ' social justice ' and demand that they were treated unfairly? That I ' owe ' them something? For ' free '?

The Government TAKES a huge percentage of what I generate and gives it to someone else for something I wasnt even alive to have supported nor started. It starts all these ' compensation ' type programs for those whom arent ' better off ' by going after those of us with a work ethic. People can cry foul, but from my perspective, I dont see the government offering to muck stalls for me? I dont see them ( government ) out on a tractor on the acres of crops. I dont see them tending the flocks and herds. Yet they say I owe THEM! I gave them a few years of my life early on, they dont deserve anything more as far as Im concerned.

Now, they wish to say I Have to pony up for a program which I want no part of. I was doing fine for myself and its none of their concern what I do! Yet, they have to FORCE people to fall in line with compliance.

If this is a government ' for the people ' and ' by the people ', it would seem only welfare dregs/social program riders are the majority of everyone, which I know isnt true.

Blame big businesses. They promote a better quality of life. People worked for them and the population grew. Big businesses took care of us now they haved dumped us.
