Ah The Great Mythbusters

Recommended Posts

Well case closed on the driving in heels hindering your driving. Adam matched his control time and it's clear he wasn't used to wearing them. As I've always known, just a myth.

WIth a bit of practice the would wear them wel. Allthough I must admit that with platform heels I wonder if the control time would be still good.

In the process of becoming the person I always was...but didn't dare to let her come out

I D.loaded this as im an avid Mythbusters fan and thought it was hilarious that they were wearing high heels! I also thought it was fantastic that they busted the myth that you become a worse driver in heels, I feel that I can drive perfectly fine in my heels :)

I enjoy Mythbusters, but somehow missed this episode. Thanks so much for posting it here. Really nice to see them bust this one and confirm what many of us already knew.

But what if you don't paint your pedals bright yellow? (Yeah, that was to make them show up on the camera.)

Have a happy time!

Same here, my very first car had an automatic. After that I always had a stick on the floor.

How does a car work with only two pedals? Don't you keep crashing into stuff without a brake?

:))) 2 pedal cars don't have clutch as their transmission is automatic. :study:

Don't worry, be happy - in heels! :rocker:

I am disappointed that this test wasn't done with someone that can wear heels well. The girl on the show should have been included, providing she wears heels. I was surprised they didn't have problems. This is like saying a person can shoot a gun just as accurately wearing thick gloves when they have never worn them before. Not scientific.

That's the idea, they done test when they never(? maybe they did:D) wore heels before, yet they managed to drive with no problems.

The test didn't really factor in real world sudden accidents. Regardless of what they say it's always going to be safer to be wearing flat soled grippy shoes. You have a larger surface area to use. I would not drive wearing heels. Ever.

As an experienced driver in high heels, I can safely say nothing could be further from the truth. I have had many instances where I have had to avoid an accident while wearing high heels. If you would never wear them while driving, how can you say this? You yourself are saying you have no experience in the matter.

I usually drive with flats, but I have driven with heels. There is no problem after an initial period. Then your feet are used to the somewhat different angle. The problem is in the beginning if you have to hit the brake fast. Here in Europe most people do not use automatic gear shift and hence you have to move your right foot from the gas pedal and onto the brake. And if you have to stop fast you have to hit the brake fully and forcefully. In my eyes this is the only problem. If you drive with an automatic and you have your left foot ready for the brake or maybe even on it already, there should be no problem. This is however something we learn here not to do because we have a third pedal for the clutch. That is the domain of the left foot. So, like all things with driving, if you try something new, practice first in a quiet place till you feel confident and then there should be no problem. And remember: also people in flats occasionally miss the brake pedal. Y.

Raise your voice. Put on some heels.

I have driven in heels, hence my attitude. I can't think of any situation where it would be better to be wearing heels rather than flats..

Out of curiosity, were they platforms? Several members have eluded to the fact that platforms are indeed a hindrance to driving.

I just don't see why it's worth the risk of wearing potentially killer heels (pun intended) when you can put on some flat shoes.

Probably because I don't own any flat shoes other than a pair of sneakers that feel and handle like clown shoes.
