Actually, the 50s saw a revival of that style. My Nan wore seams and heels in the 30s as well as the 50s. During WWII many [british] women stained their legs with gravy browning and drew a seam up the back with a brown eye pencil to mimic the effect of silk seamed stockings.

Why I love this site...the stuff you learn. I keep thinking of brown gravy and the legions of local leg loving dogs trailing behind, but know what u mean..it's just the gravy coloring. Interesting though.

Definitely no earlier than the mid-50s; a heel that thin and of that shape scarcely existed before that. But they look to me more like a 1990s or later copy of a 1950s stiletto (and certainly so if there is a platform too, it is hard to see). The seamed stockings are another timeless fashion and cannot really help us with the dating.
