Friendship Requests Etiquette

Recommended Posts

There are a few guidelines to consider when placing a friendship request: 1. Please ensure that the person you are requesting knows you in some way. If you actually know them outside the forum or you have met them on a meet then there is no reason why they would not accept your request. If you only know them in the forum then it is considered good manners to pm the person first and introduce yourself. 2. Check to make sure that the person has a friends list. Some people don't participate in the scheme and often there is a reason for this. Please do not ask without getting to know them first. 3. Look to see who they're friends with. It could be obvious that they choose their friends carefully. For example, if the person lives in the UK and so do all their friends, then they are less likely to accept a friendship request from someone in the US. 4. Bear in mind that this scheme is not a personal contact or dating facility. Should someone reject a request it isn't because they don't like you, just that they don't know you. Don't take a request or rejection personally. 5. Finally, if someone rejects you the first time then please DO NOT try again! This can be considered harrassment. We have had a number of complaints from people who have felt threatened by people who have not used the friendship scheme properly. Please follow the guidelines above and we will not have to start banning people for it.
