Worst and Best Reactions to Guy's Public Heel-Wearing

Recommended Posts

When I'm wearing my typical 2-3 inch heeled, black or brown, block heel ankle boots, or clogs or cowperson boots, with jeans; the usual public reaction is just that I'm tall. The footwear gets little attention, but the total 6 ft-4 inch height sometimes does. Unisex sandals, with shorts, also get little public attention. The real high-heeled pumps, boots and fem sandals, are only worn in more private situations.

I find that what determines most the reaction is the type of shoe, not the heel height. When I wear boots with pointed tips and a stiletto heel, I definitely get more attention than with a block heel and round toe, even if the heel is higher. I guess that makes sense. Pointy toes and thin heels are considered more feminine than block heels

I have a pair of very pointed toe boots with very chunky 3" heels. I wore them to a meeting the other night. One of my close friends who does not know about my shoes said I seemed taller. He said either he was getting shorter or I was wearing lifts in my shoes. Jokingly I said I was wearing lifts in my shoes, which he thought was absurd. It stopped there. The boots are masculine looking enough that I would have gladly showed them to him if he pressed it.

Speaking of pointed toe boots with 3 inch thicker heels, saw these fem takes on a cowperson boot at a Dillards (U.S.) over the weekend.

Website says 2.5 inch heels, looked to be at least 3 in the store. But they only go to size 10 according to the website, too small for some of us.

Nice boots for street heeling, otherwise. Probably, just a little above the radar to the general public

I'd have bought those Melani boots, on the spot, if they came in a 12M. Wonder if contacting the manufacturer or Dillards, since we have the website links, would have any impact on getting larger sizes? Those heels and boots remind me of a dressier version of the Zodiac brand women's boots of the 80's. Occassionally, those came in 11M. They looked sort of like a more fem version of classic Frye boots with a stacked 3 to 4 inch heel. Nice boots, that can still be found on eBay. Great for guys street healing.

Just this evening I wore my Western-inspired Antonio Melani boots (with an almost stiletto heel) into a fast-food restaurant. As I went to the counter to order, I think the clicking of the heels on the tile floor caught the attention of two young women nearby. Out of the corner of my eye I could see one of them whispering to the other. After placing my order I walked to the counter to fill my drink and I could clearly see in the window the reflection of one of the young women looking closely at my feet. I assumed their reaction was negative, but while I was filling my drink cup, one of the two came over to the drink counter and said to me "I love your boots". It was the kind of reaction from females that I love, but don't often get. It made my day.

Well , I guess for my worst reaction , it would be three young girls giggling when they saw my heels , I was wearing 3 1/2 " strappy sandles at the time , didn't bother me much thoguh. The best reaction was when I was wearing my 3 1/2 inch dr scholls (sassey) with a blue strap . There were tons of people around and nobody said much untill this girl of about 24 or 25 came over and said , oh my god , I love those shoes , I told her where I bought them and she just kept raving about how great I (they looked) , my wife had to pipe up and say how I owned tons of them and the girl just kept comming back to see again and again , obviously a big fan of guys in heels , but it was great!

I was shopping in Guildford yesterday lunch-time, browsing in a ladies shoe shop (as you do). I was wearing some very conservative ladies chelsea boots with a 1 1/2" heel, when I overheard a woman in her twenties saying to her friend ".....and he had four inch heels on!!!!" I just had to chip in, "What's wrong with that I often wear four inch heels" We had a little chat about heel wearing, she being of the opinion that 2" was high enough. I asked what did he look like? She said that he had really sexy boots, with a very pointy toe and a buckle across the vamp, but the rest of the outfit didn't match. Had he dressed up a bit, he'd have got away with it and looked good, but it looked as if he hadn't made enough effort with the rest of what he was wearing. It was interesting to get that reaction, as it was very open minded and quite honest.

Bad reactions: Guy sitting on the step said: Hurry home, Asshole; the curfew has started. You are out too late. Spanish woman in grocery store: M*****, _=_ ( I didn't understand what she said. She was rude. *>> Note: This was wearing my 2" heel boots, *not* higher!

joenj, Sounds like you must not be in the best area. Not a good reaction at all. I'd be a little carefull returning to wherever you were that drew these coments. Hope all goes well with your future heeling...Jim

Good point, Dawn. I always tend to assume when people whisper that they have a negative reaction, but it could just as well be postive I guess. They just may not be comfortable sharing it with you

The University was OK with my 2" heeled boots; so far. So, I won't wear any higher boots than that. I walk everywhere, I don't have a car. Fortunately I walked alone a busy street when I got the comments. Also, the grocery store does have some security, and I do carry a cellphone. So, my response is only to buy better quality boots than the Lucita boots (find insulated, brand name ), but with 2" heel. Also, these were booties, with thick heel. The *style* was OK. I will buy same style.

kiltsrgr8, Loved your story and the shoes you were wearing. As you can tell by my avatar I have a thing for the Scholl "Sassy" style too. Congratulations on a cool experience!!!

If the shoe fits-buy it!!!!!!

Worst reaction (& really the only negative one ever): A young couple apparently caught just the right view to see my 4.5" block heels under boot cut jeans. I happened to look over my shoulder to see them giggling and looking back at me from the other end of the aisle. Best: the dozens of times I've been street heeling, dining in restaurants, shopping, strolling thru hotel lobbys, etc., without anyone noticing. New Category-Most uncomfortable: Post 9/11 airport security, the security guy saying "nice stacks" (I guess a reference to the plats or heels?) and being told I had to remove them, and having to put the 3" Mudd boots on the belt in front of other travelers!

"It's just a flesh wound"

Joenj wrote " Spanish woman in grocery store: M*****, _=_ ( I didn't understand what she said. She was rude. " Well, I'm not especially proficient in Spanish but I assume she said "Marricon" (not sure of the spelling though) which means "faggot". Sorry, I don't want to be offensive, it is just for your enlightment. I personally like to know what people call me, even when they use foreign language. Cheers Vanesa

Hi all, I always wear high heeled designer boots in public (Sergio Rossi, Prada, Versace etc.) - and even my stiletto jeans (Chanel). I am a true fashion addict, so I always wear most fashionable designer clothes with them. That combination never gave any bad comment, rather the opposite. I have received many positive comments - especially from women - saying they like the look, they like the courage, they think its cool. The key is probably that it really looks good - if it does, and if the clothes are hip, then the boots fit in the theme.

I havn't got any boots with a buckle across the vamp, so it couldn't have been me .... but I do go to Guildford fairly often.

I heard the strangest compliment the other day, admittedly from a slightly inebriated woman, but an interesting compliment nevertheless. I was sitting at the bar in a local casino with my wife when a woman came up behind me and put both hands on my shoulders before saying, "I sure wish I could get my husband to wear something more progressive like what you're wearing. He's been stuck on the same style cowboy boots for the last 22 years! Good on 'ya, and cheers!" We slammed glasses and drank, and such was life.
