SleekHeels Posted January 13, 2013 Share Posted January 13, 2013 I don't hate wedges, those boots look fantastic saudade, I love the shape of the heel (from the back) and the footprint, and the strap detailing is great too (if I'm picky maybe I'd prefer if the buckle detail was a little less blocky). Also a really elegant height and the platform is practically invisible. I'm thinking they'd look amazing with a dark grey knee-length skirt and black turtleneck top with a black leather jacket - what looks do you have in mind with those boots? If you like it, wear it. I guess it's all about guilt by association. For my part, I find platforms, even small ones somewhat, well, cloddish to wear, but that's just my opinion. Curt Posted January 13, 2013 Share Posted January 13, 2013 Whatever! We all like what we like. I like platforms, but not the heavy, clumsy ones from the 70s! Mine are between 3/4" - 1". I like them because they give me more cushion when I walk an rough or graveled pavement. I need extra comfort because I'm in heels 90% of the time. I've tried heels with no plats, and don't like them whatsoever. Do you guys find it hard to find heels with no platform? I find that most shoes and boots have some kind of platform on them. My personal experience is that the platform accentuates my walk in such a way that is not in my vision for myself. I suppose it's what I'm used to. I literally walk/run/jump/dance effortlessly in single sole stiletto footwear and it's been my daily footwear for seven plus years. In a way every shoe has some platform, the sole takes up at least some non-significant portion of height. I just gather that there seems to be an overtone of hatred for extra "sole" (pun intended) on the shoe. I personally don't think much of up to about 3cm, past that and walking becomes more... interesting. Under and there isn't a whole lot of difference to gait. So whats the rub all you platform haters? But now after buying a couple pairs of pumps, a pair of booties and a, pair of knee boots all with platforms I like the look. I still don't like the look of the 2" or higher platforms. Mine are all 1 1/2" or less as opposed to the 2-3" platforms out there, that some women are wearing. I cringe when I pay $60 for a pair. Yet my Redwings were about $200. I guess I've got my priorities all screwed up! Question though... are expensive heels actually worth it? Many inexpensive pumps may be comfortable for a short time (there are exceptions). Likewise most mid to high end heels are much more comfy for the long haul (again there are exceptions).
