free thinker Posted January 18, 2009 Share Posted January 18, 2009 Hello, I've been reading the posts here for quite a while. Finally decided to start writing as well. My wife and I will be going to Sydney and Melbourne soon. I'd like to wear a couple pairs of boots (3" block heel and another that is a 3" narrower heel) with the jeans covering most of the heel. I've heard that Australians might not be as open to men wearing heels. I've worn this look in the US without any bad experiences for the past year. Granted the heel is mainly covered up by my jeans. At several coffee shops, a few people have commented that they liked the look. Anyone with experience heeling in Australia? This site has been quite an inspiration. Thanks. The most risky will be going anywhere where the drinking culture runs rampant (pubs/clubs in certain areas at night). A drunk youth would be the most likely to not hold their tongue and give you are hard time.. difficult to reason with them as well. On your own would be more difficult than with a partner or friends. I can't imagine anyone in say a restaurant saying anything. Melbourne seems to be more avant guarde than Sydney, so I would expect you would feel more at home there. malinheels Posted January 21, 2010 Share Posted January 21, 2010 G'day freethinker i live in Melbourne Australia & i can tell you if you want to wear high heel shoes, skirts, a dress, in melbourne you can without worring to much i regularly walk through the city in skirt & high heels i wore a dress & high heels on public transport to the races in november lots of people spoke to me and gave me good feedback about what i was wearing On occasion i go to crown casino in Melb wearing my Skirt & high heels with never an incident so yeah take it from some one who lives here if you want to wear high heels you surely can in melbourne Let me know when your coming and we can meet up if you like .cheers malinheels Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I 've checked in hotels in heels, walked around town, took public transport, went shopping (good shopping malls). I wore jeans or denim skirts. I often bought shoes there (I'm size 43/12 US/Aus11). Place to shop: Bondi Junction, Parramatta mall etc. You'll find Payless (not much choice in that size) and Target (not high quality but cheap and fashionable, usually a fair range of heels in my size). As Ben in AU said.... probably stay clear of some of the rougher pubs.... The main reason I'm afraid of wearing heels out in Sydney is that I'll run into people.... but if that was not an issue, I would feel quite comfortable around most parts in heels.... I think that function was available on the old version of this website but not sure. Being mentally comfortable in your own mind is the key to wearing heels in public. However, as poorly as I speak it, I still can recognize that he's thinking about the number that we have "here" -- on the forum, don't you think? Or, perhaps I'm missing something in the translation? I was really curious about how many Australians were on this forum, and if they were active. Particularly because finding fellow heel wearers in Australia tends to be a bit of a hit and miss affair. Years and years ago, I set up a Yahoo group called 'Australian men in high heels', followed by a facebook group, Australian men in heels. Both still exist more or less. The Yahoo group was so filled with cross dressers, that soon the porn-bots followed along. Within the group it became more or less impossible to keep in contact with fellow heel wearers after that. I do try to track down local Australians whenever I can, mainly because I feel we have a lot to talk about, and would love to share experiences with shopping, going out, partnering etc... with people with a local culture and understanding. There are many, many pairs of great looking styles of woman's sandals that look appropriate when being worn by men. In fact, apparently it only takes three or four years before some of these styles are regularly accepted by the general public and migrate over to the male side of the store. I regularly include various styles of sandals with 5" wedge heels to wear in public. Being mentally comfortable in your own mind is the key to wearing heels in public. Go during gay and Lesbian Marti gra and no one would notice. But like anywhere there are better areas for guys to wear heels than others. Eastern side, like the famous Oxford St is fine.
