The Jaunts of JeffB!

Jaunt #193, 6/29/2013:

With summer fully in force, that means the heat is here too, and with plenty of that and sunshine and temps creeping into the upper 80's, that meant it was time for a new jaunt in a skirt which (along with the occasional skort) I've vowed to be all I wear on my outing through the season, today, it was my 17 inch denim skirt from Old Navy which I paired with a purple polo shirt, the Payless "Cori" wedge flats and my crossbody handbag which I've come to truly appreciate since it leaves my hands free while out and about, and it looks good to boot. Given how hot and steamy it was today, wearing a short skirt is the way to go because it leaves me cool and comfortable unlike jeans or pants or even shorts.

Right away, I had a humorous encounter when I stopped at a branch of my bank to tap an ATM, when I was on my way back to my car half a block away from the bank, I passed by a homeless man who's eyes bulged, his mouth fell open and he stared hard at me in passing. Looking over my shoulder, I saw that he turned almost completely around to gawk at me like I eight feet tall, had three heads and a forked tail. I found that rather funny. From there, I drove to my favorite comic book shop downtown, parked little over a block away and walked to the store where I spent a good twenty or so minutes, chatting with the staff about Man Of Steel which I had seen recently seen and found to have been darker in tone than I anticipated, though I should've seen that coming since it was produced by Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight Trilogy) and directed by Zach Snyder (300).

From there, it was off to South Jersey and the Moorestown Mall area where I had lunch at Boston Market and had the Homestyle Meatloaf Carver which was delicious, I recommend that highly. Yum! My final stop of the day which I planned to cut short so I could get home before the weather turned because of a thunderstorm threat was to Barnes & Noble where I spent another solid half hout wandering the aisles, thumbing through magazines and checking out the video department before I left with the DVD of The Hound of the Baskervilles with Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes which I can compare to the Peter Cushing version from the 60's and the Jeremy Brett version (my fave) from the 80's. Should be plenty interesting. Another pleasant and enjoyable outing, though brief, I still managed to have fun, and that's the important thing by far.

Nice ensemble JeffB. I liked your look very much. That purple top looks great. Keep up the good work! BTW, thanks for the favorable comments on my look I posted yesterday. That length of ankle jeans is very popular with the ladies this summer. I see that look a lot these days and that's the look I was trying to present. Happy Heeling, bluejay

Looking good Jeff, I have yet to try short skirts w/o tights. but I've become - like you - dependent on cross strap handbags, even when out in no heels or skirts. so nice to not dig into a pocket! I also enjoy the moment of preparation required - transfering necessary items from one handbag to another - as the handbag must coordinate with the outfit.

Thanks for the kind words. The funny thing is, purple is my favorite color, but I rarely wear it. Perhaps I should change things up in that department. Heh! :)

Indeed, proper color coordination between one's shoes and handbag is essential, I always make sure of that before I go out. Don't want to be seen looking gauche! :P

I was colored coordinated tonight with my red capri jeans, black long length polo shirt and my Naturalizer , black, slide sandals with 2-1/2" big block heels and my black bag. I was in Macy's doing some shopping, mostly window, when I ran into the clerk that sold me my bag recently. She complimented me on how nice it looked on me and that she liked my overall look tonight. I was flattered! Happy Heeling, bluejay

Jaunt #194, 7/19/2013:

The seemingly endless days of ridiculous heat have made me too lazy to do any jaunting, but, having had yesterday off from work (not by choice) and an appointment at the dealership to have my car inspected, I decided to make that an outing. So, donning a blue polo shirt, a 17 inch Old Navy denim skirt, the Payless "Felix" flats in black and my trusty black leather handbag, I headed out. My appointment was for 8:15 a.m. and it was already icky hot when I left thirty minutes before. UGH! Already, I found myself wishing I wore a lighter shirt, but, there was nothing I could do about that. Having arrived at the dealership ten minutes before my appointment, I hopped out, pretty as you please and went in so I could enjoy the air conditioning. AHHH! Positively delightful!

There were only four other people in the lounge, two ladies and two gentlemen, neither giving me more than a casual glance as I entered and took a seat. My wait was little over an hour while I bounced back and forth between watching TV and fiddling around with Facebook on my smartphone, not at all bothered by the fact that my skirt rode up while I sat, legs crossed like any woman, in fact, I got a wee bit of a rush over showing off my legs, and yeah, I won't deny I'm proud of the knowledge that I look damn good in a short skirt, and that's why I wear them, not just because they provide a considerable measure of comfort in hot weather like what I had to deal with yesterday. By around 9:30, the work was completed on my car, paid for the work, picked up my keys and left, strolling through the showroom area and out a side door to where my car waited.

My next stop was a brief one downtown at a convienience store I regularly frequent to buy the Powerball Lottery ticket for Saturday night. I made a note to park about a block away so I could enjoy a bit of a walk, and so I could be seen, and while I was seen, no one paid me any attention. Wow! Was it ever hot, but I still felt comfortable in my outfit. After buying the ticket, I returned to my car and went back home to bask under the wonderfulness of air conditioning. I would've posted this report of my brief outing after I returned, but I was feeling too lazy, and thus, here I am typing things up this morning. Will I head out today? Maybe.

Hello Jeff! Its good to be back and have some time to get caught up on your Jaunts! You are looking great and styling as usual. I like that you are wearing sandals and that you work the flats just as well as you do your heels. I too have caught the accessory bug. Looking back, heels really got me into all sort of fashion choices... Keep it up my friend!

Good heavens! HappyFeat! Long time, no see! How have you been doing, my friend? Glad to read that you've taken time out to read some of my adventures! Thanks for the kind words! Yeah, I've found sandals to be interesting footwear choices, ditto for flats as I'm more about the complete outfit when out and about on my jaunts, not just the shoes. I will keep on keeping on, good buddy!

Jeff, how could I not read some of your posts? You are the style master and the outing king! I always learn a lot and get great ideas from you. It is really exciting to see you expand your style and keep your look growing. One of the things that I know you understand more than most is that you can never be truly satisfied with your style. It is an evolutionary process and you are evolving quite well! You are and will continue to be an inspiration.

Many thanks for the kind words! Well, I don't know about being a style master, I simply do the very best I can, and things seem to be working okay so far, and, more importantly, I'm enjoying myself. By the by, I get ideas from you and the outfits you sport, so we help each other. Yes, I agree that one can never be satisfied when it comes to style, that's how stagnation comes about, and I'm trying not to let that happen to me. I've begun experimenting ever so slowly with more feminine looking tops, more jewelry, and I'm eager to integrate dresses more into my jaunting. Heels are simply part of the overall equation these days, not the be all and end all, as evidenced by my wearing flats more frequently of late. I'll do my very best to continue inspiring you and everyone else here.

Thanks a lot, hhboots, much obliged! I'm glad that you continue to like what I've been doing. Freestyling has become very important to me, and I want to continue pushing the envelope with my fashion as much as I can.

Jaunt #195, 7/27/2013:

Unlike last Saturday which was godawful hot and humid, today wasn't nearly as bad, so I hit the road on a new adventure, and I decided to go as casual as I could, wearing a Basic Editions lace trimmed tank top in black from K-Mart, a 15 inch I Heart Ronson denim skirt from JCPenney, the Payless "Cori" wedge flats and my favorite black handbag. This would be something of an experiment as this would be a longer outing in a tank top, something I rarely wear, but I wanted to branch out form polo shirts and campshirts and thought this would make for a nice change of pace. As for the skirt, even though it's rather short, because I'm wearing it under the tank without a belt, letting it sit at my natural waist, it looks longer than it really is. Along with the flat shoes, I thought it made for a typically casual outfit a girl or woman might wear on a lazy, late July Saturday. And, yes, I felt perfectly casual and at ease in this outfit as well.

However, I will admit to being a tad self-conscious at first as I headed out, not about the skirt, I've been wearing minis regularly for some time now (I'm finding it difficult to wear anything longer than 17 inches, must be because of the summer heat) and have no trouble showing off my legs, rather, it was the concept of showing off my arms and upper torso in the tank. I wasn't bothered by the lace trim, in fact, that was what led me to buy it in the first place, but being so used to wearing shirts with sleeves, going without was something of a shock, however, I slowly came to adapt. My first stop of the day was to my local comic book shop downtown, as usual, finding a parking spot was a chore, and it took some twenty minutes to do so, a whole block away. Irksome. No matter, it allowed me to enjoy a bit of a walk, and to be seen, I was seen my motorists and passersby, but no one made a scene over how I was dressed. I spent a good twenty minutes in the shop, today I yakked with the staff about The Wolverine which I had seen on Friday and liked a lot.

From there, it was off to the greater northeast and Parx Casino as I had another $75 worth of free slot play to use before the end of the month. Entering the casino, I was reminded of the perils of having one's arms uncovered in an air conditioned space as I was positively chilled when I entered. BBRRRRR! After having lunch, I went about spending my slot dollars, I hardly broke the bank (only playing one penny machines), but I did manage to leave the place after close to an hour with a smidgen over one hundred bucks from the new Wizard of Oz machine. Not too bad, I can use that for grocery shopping on Sunday. Back in the car, I roamed over the Ben Franklin Bridge and into South Jersey where my last stop of the day was at Barnes & Noble. After parking, I was on my way to the store when three young black females drove by, pointed at me and laughed out loud. Tsk! How rude, but I just ignored them. I would spend little over half an hour in the store, happily roaming the magazine and video aisles before leaving with a couple of manga titles.

The casual approach I effected came off quite nicely I thought, with the exception of those three young boors, I was able to go out and about without raising a stir. Heaven knows I've seen women dress lots more provocatively, especially when it came to wearing short shorts that leave absolutely NOTHING to the imagination, I also saw a few, how shall I say it....plumpish women wearing tight shorts and tight tops and displaying the dreaded muffin top. URGH! And that's why I go out of my way to look the very best I can on my outings, no way would I consciously choose to embarrass myself while in public.

Nice coordinated look JeffB. I"m glad you enjoyed yourself out and about on Saturday. As far as those three young females, too bad for them, that they have that attitude. You handled yourself with a lot of self confidence that us experienced heelers have come to have. Today, as I was checking out of a supermarket, the young black female cashier about 20, who was waiting on me, jaw almost dropped as she handed me my change and looked at my 4" wedge heel slides I was wearing, which shows off my red pedi very much. I wasn't wearing a skirt but had a pair of khaki capris and a black polo shirt. She smiled at me and said, "I like your style". I thanked her for the compliment she paid me. That was a real nice jesture on her part. It helped make my day! So not all young women act like the three you encountered. Happy Heeling, bluejay

Thanks for the kind words. Wearing that tank top made for an interesting experience once I overcame my brief and initial apprehension. I'll certainly wear one again in the near future.

It's always nice when you get compliments on your attire as that validates your appearance and that all the effort you went through to look your best bore fruit. Good for you! As my my encounter, it was brief and already forgotten.

Nice outift and a good outing Jeff. I like the tank a lot, but they can be chilly in the AC. Fun, eventful outing as well!

Oh, yes, I was taken aback at how chilly it was, given what I wore. Sill, it was plenty fun!

That's great Jeff, the top really blends well with the overall look. I really like the sleeveless or short-sleeved look but I've been very apprehensive about wearing anything like that because my arms are quite hairy and I don't think that looks nice. In the summer I usually wear a light long-sleeved shirt or blazer to cover my arms.

If you like it, wear it.

Well, I've been fortunate to have been naturally hairless on my arms and legs, otherwise, I'd never be able to wear a tank, or a skirt, so I consider myself to be rather lucky. As sticky hot and humid as its been here over the last month plus, wearing long sleeves or a blazer would've been suicidal.

I'm quite hairy myself but don't let it bother me concerning my arms. My neckline on the other hand, is one of the reasons why I go for polos or button up shirts. I shave enough where I can have the top button undone at my collar but that's it other than my legs and face. Even when I wear business attire with skirts I tend to roll up my long sleeves, but my skin is pretty olive so my hair isn't overly contrasting.

Nope! Fortunately, we only had mild showers in my neighborhood while areas to the south got hammered. Besides, I was home all day on Sunday, staying nice and dry and watching baseball.

JeffB; The outfit looks great. Try it with hose. Yeah I know its warm, but hose are not uncomfortable in this weather, in fact that can have a cooling effect. I've been wearing hose with shorts for over a month now and we do have some warm days in Cincinnati (relative humidity often matches the temperature F). The flats look good with the skirt but boots look better (they don't have to be thigh boots either). I have a couple of pair of knee high boots that have a fabric top and I wear them on all but the hottest days. Keep on keeping on my friend.

I dream of a world where chickens can cross roads without having their motives questioned.

It hasn't been hot here, it's been STUPID hot, complete with the sort of humidity that socks on the jaw and flattens you the minute you step outside. I've literally gone from dry as a bone to sweating like a stuck pig mere minutes after going outside. I can't remember the last time a summer has been THIS miserable. The notion of wearing hosiery has been a non-stater and will remain so until at least September, ditto for boots. Heck, by the time October rolls around, I suspect you won't be able to get me out of wearing boots and long skirts!

ADDENDUM: I haven't worn jeans on an outing since late April, and I don't miss them in the least as I've been having all kinds of fun wearing skirts. In fact, I can honestly say I can't think of one good reason to wear jeans at all, save perhaps with my thigh high boots. Like I said previously, come fall, I can make a smooth transition to long wool skirts and knee high boots (especially a nice pair of riding boots) once the weather turns cooler and keep on keeping on right on into winter and beyond. That could be fun.

I don't want to LOOK like a woman, I just want to DRESS like a woman!

Jaunt #196, 8/16/2013:

With the sun shining, the weather comfortable, and an errand to run, I thought this was a good time for a jaunt. And, just for fun, I thought I'd dress up a little (compared to my previous outings) as I wore a royal blue campshirt from K-Mart, a 20 inch black denim American Living pencil skirt from JCPenney, the Payless "Karma" pumps and my favorite black handbag. The skirt, which I wore in public for the first time today was deliciously snug on me and had a cute slit in the back, adding to it's overall attractiveness, as for the Karma pumps, it had been awhile since I last wore them and had forgotten how comfortable, not to mention delightfully loud the four inch heels were on the pavement, all in all, this made for quite a sharp outfit that I not only felt good wearing, if anything, I actually felt empowered, or as empowered as a 54-year old man in a tight skirt and heels could feel.

My first stop of the day was to the TD Bank branch in Springfield to cash in some coins, after I arrived, I hopped out with my bag of coins and confidently strode inside. Even though there were over a dozen customers in the bank, no one paid me any mind as I went about my business of depositing my coins, after geeting my receipt, I got in line and casually waited my turn to get my cash, which wound up being just under $77 bucks. Not bad at all. After leaving the bank, my next stop was to Subway down the road for lunch, I left my car, casually went inside and enjoyed a foot long Subway Club and a Coke, there were only a couple of people inside at the time, and they paid me no mind. My third and final stop of the day was Best Buy, there was a good crowd, and while I did get a couple of stares, it was no big deal as I spent a good half hour plus strolling about before going to the register with John Carpenter's The Fog on Blu-Ray.

As I said earlier, I felt empowered in my outfit, calm and comfortable too, and that made the experience a goodly amount of fun as well. Wearing a skirt and heels in public is great fun, it's my identity as a freestyler, and I intend to keep on having fun too!

Great look Jeff, one of the best so far. The "snug" skirt works very well. I'm really not surprised the outfit didn't attract more attention. It looks very "mainstream" (which is good if you want to blend in) even though a 54 year old guy is wearing it. $77 in change... I guess the handbag really came in handy. Sounds like you had an enjoyable outing. As you say, "keep on keeping on." TBG

I strove to look as mainstream as possible, given the time of day and the place I happened to be, I wanted to look just like any woman making a brief stop at the bank to take care of business. That said, I plan to work in a dressier looking skirt for a similar outing in the future or perhaps a trip into downtown. If I'm going to wear a skirt and heels, then it behooves me to look as dressy and stylish as possible. As for all that change I lugged into the bank, yes, the handbag did come in very handy. If you're going to freestyle, kids, NEVER leave home without a purse! :silly: Addendum: Good news, everybody, I found my dress today for my upcoming 200th jaunt. I bought it at Sears, and it isn't fancy or flashy as I was looking for something I could wear anywhere and blend in, as best as possible of course. I'll need to accessorize my new acquisition, but that won't take long, I'm REALLY jazzed to soon be wearing a dress again and I'm sure it'll make for a fun experience!

I don't want to LOOK like a woman, I just want to DRESS like a woman!

I like this look Jeff! You look well put together! It totally works!

Many thanks! I certainly liked that outfit, and I felt good wearing it too! And yes, I will have to see about wearing more pencil skirts in the future as they really suit me.
