I wear them year round in the house, but up here in Pennsylvania it is rare that I could venture outside in them during the winter. Sandals and snow don't mix well for me.

Welcome, Wildpair from another Pennsylvanian. I live just south of Lake Erie. I can remember my wife and I buying a pair of matching clogs from the Wildpair store in the Monroeville Mall in the mid 70's. They had some incredible shoes. Wish they were still around...

Cool story! The lady was fortunate to have your help.

Are the "skyscrapers" that you wore to the mall the same shoes in your avatar? Those look cool, like peep-toe high heeled sneakers. Sounds like you have the street heeling down. Ever run into friends or neighbors while heeling? Good luck with the school/job issues.

A part-time job in a shoe store would certainly make my habit a lot cheaper!!!!
-
Does a lot for me too. Nothing better than a new pair of shoes!
-
I'm like most everyone else in here, a few pairs of men's shoes but the majority are women's styles, in fact the LARGE majority!!

Same here Radiodave. It's pretty redneck here in NW Pennsylvania so I'm not quite as gutsy as I would like. But sometimes discretion is the better part of valor as someone much smarter than me once said. Once in a while I throw caution to the wind and wear what I want but not as often as I should.

Great experience HHD. She sounded like a cool lady even if she was OLD!!! Just kidding, you'll have to put up with some mock indignance in here from some of us old farts. Still, we should all remember that age is relative. Hope you have many more positive experiences.

Those are great stories Radiodave. You should have a weekly series in here, "The Adventures of Radiodave." Love the red espadrilles and the Madden cork wedges. We have similar taste but you are a bit braver than I am. We don't live too far apart either. I'm in NW Pennsylvania about 100 miles from Cleveland. Great to have a "neighbor" with unique taste in shoes. Keep the good stories coming....

My first encounter was with the neighbor girl's shoes. It was the mid 60's and I was with her brother at their house. Somehow we ended up in her room and tried on, of all things, her flip flops!! I know that is taboo in here but it was an incredible rush and I knew from then I had some feeling for ladies' footwear. I was a teenager when the 70's hit with the clogs and platforms. Then I started in earnest to build my collection. It's now many years later with an enormous collection and I almost exclusively wear women's style shoes. I wouldn't change for anything!!!

Probably well over 100 pairs. If the wife wore the same size as I do the count would be much higher. While I wear a common size (10) she only wears a 6!! You guys who can swap with your mates are so lucky!!!!

That was a neat experience and those are some nice shoes. They look similar to some mj clogs that I have.

I have lots of "thong mules" or what I call a platform thong. I wear them most of the time during the summer including to one of my jobs. I have the in different heights fom 1-1/2 to about 4". I love them.

Like most others my tastes have evolved too. I have even (shudder!!!!) alowed some flats to sneak into my collection but not to the point that the heels take a back seat.

Talk about a blast from the past! I thought the article seemed vaguely familiar, and when I read the part about the guy who broke his ankle and was thankful that he didn't strangle in his pearls, it hit me that I read it when it was first published. I was just getting into the shoe scene then and that fall I bought my first pair of platform clogs. They were navy blue suede with a black, genuine cork base made by El Greco. Man they were hot! Little did I know that a true monster had been created, and I wouldn't change it for the world!!! P.S. Before I bought my clogs I already had a couple of pairs of boots with a 2-1/2" heel. It was great then. Guys could wear just about any platform shoe and get away with it no questions asked. Believe me, I did!!

I can only vouch for their service and it is good. They take a genuine concern in satisfying the customer. I bet if you email the company they would probably be able to answer your questions outright. From their list of testimonials they appear to have a large international following. Their shoes are incredible. I wish I could afford more! Good luck.

Hoverfly suggested Shoes USA. They are a great source for clogs, although a bit expensive. I bit the bullet and bought a pair of their Gabby style with a 4" heel. They are really hot!

I would say yes. They look like some of the Steve Madden loafers from a couple of years ago. They could certainly pass where I work so I would definitely wear them.

Sounds like you had a great outing. More power to you!

I love clogs. I have many styles but my favorites are Dansko and Bastad. Danskos are one of the fem shoes that I can actually get away with at work. It's getting more difficult to pull off though, because they put in a new metal detector at work and it is much more sensitive than the old one. Shoes quite often set it off because of buckles, eyelets, steel shanks etc. If shoes set it off we have to remove them so if I was real daring some day my cover would be blown to hell! I have a nice pair of Dansko T-strap clogs that I wear to work a lot. So far I've been fortunate...
-
I love wedges too. A good percentage of my collection have a wedge.

1100 bucks for a WWII style combat boot??? What the hell are people thinking? Of course the prices on the other styles are equally ridiculous. It is quite obvious that there are many people out there with more money than brains!

Actually I don't think there is a problem with walking across a college campus. Unless the college is extremely small I don't think anyone would notice including security. Besides, most colleges are accustomed to the "nontraditional student", those over the age of 30. I started my undergrad in 1992 when I was 38 and I'm back at the same school for my master degree. There is a large number of nontraditionals on campuses today, and with the array of issues that security has to deal with I believe that a person wearing alternative footwear would not rate too high on their list of things to worry about. Enjoy yourself and don't worry so much.
