Ha, agree with 1st paragraph. Disagree with second. 4 to 5 inch single soles are way sexier than the platformed crap strippers wear now.

    I second that emotion!

I bought these today.  Naturalizer Soul Noela.  Paid $48 at DSW.  The size 11 medium I bought fits pretty well, though still a hair on the narrow side for my wider than typical foot.  The heel in size 11 is 3 1/2 inches which is a good height for my rather bad feet.  Wore them grocery shopping and they were good, but hopefully will break in a bit on the width.

As someone who's found joy in moderate heel heights (I rarely wear anything over three inches these days), I'd certainly enjoy those boots if they came in my size.

    How nice 😀!

I’m wondering how fast she could run in heels in case she has to chase a pickpocket. Or a mafia boss...... But I would not underestimate her. Some women have incredible high heels skills.

Funny you should mention that, reminds me of this commercial from the the early 90's:

Did they intentionally get a male model that looks like a woman to model clothes to "disrupting the toxic stereotypes that mold masculine gender identity"??

Never mind disrupting toxic stereotypes, yadda yadda yadda, $2,600 for THAT piece of crap? Seriously? I’ve seen better looking dresses at Wal-Mart! It probably cost all of ten or fifteen bucks to sew that thing in some sweatshop while the Gucci tag represented the rest of the cost. Hard pass!

Finally starting to explore the city a bit more since the March lockdowns took effect.

While I've been out a few times for dinner, today marked the first time I actually went out for 2 days back to back.  We rode a moped from Long Island City Queens to DUMBO, Brooklyn...then back to Long Island City.  In between, we explored some abandoned subway cars in an abandoned rail yard in Long Island City.   Wearing heels with a passenger wasn't worth the safety risk.  But I did wear my women's patent flats for which she complimented me.

She obliged my request to bring her patent stiletto pumps along though, which made for some excitement.

EDIT: the bottom photo was actually taken within view of the Manhattan skyline.  It's in a totally obscure location in Long Island City in an abandoned rail track for the MTA.

Pretty darn cool. Glad to see you’re back out and about. Sounds like you had a good time.

I think retail as a whole (at least in the States anyway) has been thrown into chaos because of the virus as it looked like stores were in the process of swapping out fall/winter stuff in favor of spring/summer stuff when the lockdown went into effect. Once the lockdown was lifted and stores reopened, there were lots of empty shelves everywhere as stores struggled to catch up, and only over the last few weeks, things appear to have returned to a semblance of pre-lockdown normalcy.

Something messed up royally here. If there are weird replies, just ignore them. What I was trying to write in the first place is that I must be channeling my inner @kneehighs , because I've been getting some compliments through chat lately. The difference is, my aims and intentions in chat are rather different than kneehighs's, as I am uncle/mentor/English teacher to what few chatting friends I have left. I might also add that I have met all of my chatting friends in person on multiple occasions. Anyhow, this is an excerpt from a conversation I had with my friend Huyền, who is very young. I believe she's 24. She's into shoes, nails, and fashion in general. She also tends to ignore my advice, usually to her detriment. That's the problem with a lot of kids these days--they don't really want advice, they want validation. I think that may be part of the reason she hardly ever talks to me these days. I digress, and I'm taking some validation for myself! HA! What do you think about that?

    JoieShoesChat.jpg

Yeah, it sure sounds like she's complimenting you.

I agree with keeping the point a reasonable length. I think them witch toes look ridiculous. But then, who am I to tell anybody they look ridiculous?

Don't worry, I'll say it: they look ridiculous! A retired co-worker at the place where I work called shoes like those "roach killers" for whacking those bad guys in corners!

  9. Everything Bubba said was spot on in my opinion. Each of us has their own reasons and rationales for wearing heels. Ironically enough, in my case, as I’ve said scores of times, shoes aren’t the be all and all for me, rather, part of a complete outfit which I obsess over, even more, I rarely wear anything over three inches these days as I’m more about comfort than style.

  10. My personal journey from mere fancier of high heels to full blown fashion freestyler has taken numerous twists and turns over the last several years, some I anticipated and considered part of a natural progression, others took me quite by surprise, leading me to simply roll with the course provided me. If I’ve said this once, I’ve said it a thousand times, these days, I’m all about the COMPLETE outfit, not just the shoes, and I go to great lengths to make sure I look my very best from head to toe, that held especially true when it came to tops.

When I decided to pair the skirts I began wearing regularly with women’s tops, I was careful to opt for demure offerings when it came to necklines for outfits I wore in the spring and summer. Nothing at all racy or exposing, at first, being presentable and blending in with my surroundings was of utmost importance, I was okay at first with simple shirts and polos which, ironically enough, were nearly indistinguishable from the male variety, from there, I moved on to more feminine looking blouses which I liked because they were pretty. Next up were tank tops, and this was where I started becoming a tad bolder, exposing not just my arms but my chest, though not too much, this was a look I quickly came to like, also, taking into account how hot and sticky summers got in my neck of the woods, tanks provided comfort, however, over time, I was starting to think that wasn’t enough, that I needed to take what I felt was the next and most logical step when it came to tops....the camisole.

Seeing girls and women wearing camisoles, I thought to myself, I could make that work and was eager to try one. So, while on a trip in South Jersey, I swung by the Sears in the Moorestown Mall (sadly, it’s now closed), I bought a couple of camis, one in white, another in black and was both intrigued, and a wee bit intimidated by them. The combination of the spaghetti thin straps and deep plunge exposed more of my upper body than I thought, I won’t deny I was particularly leery about the plunge in front and how that might be perceived when wearing it in public, while I like to show off, I didn’t want to be perceived as an exhibitionist, still, I liked what I saw, on top of that, I felt a rush from how daring it was to wear a top that showed so much. Predictably, when I went on a jaunt wearing a cami, no one took notice, and that gave me the courage to undertake more outings in not just them, but in cami strap dresses as well, and a brand new fashion horizon had opened to me.

Today, I’m no longer intimidated by wearing any sort of top or dress with thin straps and a deep plunge, in fact, I love them. Sure, while the overall effect isn’t as pronounced for a flat chested guy as it would for a woman, I still appreciate how bold and daring the look is, and I have zero problem showing it off no matter where I happen to go. Of course, I have to present disclaimers in that wearing low cut tops or dresses isn’t for every guy, especially those who are, shall we say, more hirsute than others, I’m lucky to be hairless, otherwise I wouldn’t dream of wearing such tops. So yeah, as the title of this article says, I’ve taken the plunge with low cut  tops, and it’s a hell of a lot of fun!

  11. That's right, folks, Payless has indeed returned, mainly as an online shopping resource, but I've heard rumors that brick and mortal stores could be returning as well. As for the website, the selection isn't quite as large as it was before the franchise went dark, but I would imagine it will grow in time. Check it out here:

#FemBoyFriday is a new hashtag trend on both TikTok and Instagram.  It's quite popular with the Gen-Z and young Millennial crowd.  An entire generation is supportive of gender fluid dressing now.  That includes men in heels.

The change we've all wanted for decades is finally here.  While the fashion styles may not be what some wanted, the change in the underlying attitude towards gender fluid dressing is noteworthy.

That article was most interesting. I found it satisfying to have read that the young are leading the charge for gender fluid dressing. Meanwhile, I'm perfectly fine with the generational gap when it comes to fashion which is forever open to personal interpretation.

I have not bought anything south of three inches in.  .  . I don't think ever. Not counting work boots, or anything previous to 2012. I have bought a few recently that were south of four inches, however. I thought to myself, "Oh, those are actually very cute, and you know, life would be incrementally easier if I would just back off on the heel height a little." Guess what? I haven't worn any of those shoes. Not even once. To be fair, it's a strange, strange year, and unless I want to take a walk around my neighborhood at a good clip, I have precious little reason to wear any shoes where you have to bend over and do up a fussy buckle, so perhaps it's unfair to say I will never wear them at all, but I probably should have known myself a little bit better and kept my money. Like so many people on this forum have said about themselves, I cannot possibly tell you why I like the shoes I do. There is no logic to it whatsoever. It's even worse than that! Sometimes, as you have noted, Jeff, we suddenly do an about-face, and start liking something we didn't before. So who knows?

Who indeed? Years ago, I had no interest whatsoever in sandals, especially flat sandals, today, they're my shoe of choice during summer. Between June and August with precious few exceptions, sandals are pretty much all I wear as I like them a lot. Call it an evolution in my personal style, something I imagine we all experience in one way or another.
