  1. Its a party where to turn up you have to wear high heels and makeup.

    More for the gay community.

I was convinced to go as was told by a friend that it would be full of women and I'd have my pick! It was not - It was full of men dressed up.

I went to three of them, god knows why.. the 3rd time all I remember was waking up at 11am the following day in knee high boots and a skirt.

Sooooooooo, who was next to you???

    (sorry, I couldn't resist!)

  2. Something with ankle support (ankle boots/bootshoe) if appropriate? [With trousers for example.]

    Thicker heel = more stable?

Not too high? 3"-4" if you manage this with no discomfort usually.

    Cushioned footbed.

Shoes that don't have any vices. Meaning when you put them on, they don't crush or pinch your foot or toes. Nor are they so loose your foot moves around in them.

    For Look:

The highest pair you can afford.

Oh, and get plenty of practice before the big day?

The most important thing is practice. If you don't choose a boot, go for something with an ankle strap to help ensure the shoe stays securely on your foot.

    Good luck and enjoy!

  3. Your point is right in line with the point I posted below in response to Simon's comment. When a country has 3 billion people to keep occupied, there's a whole lot of unskilled labor to work in those "sweatshops." Up until 20 years ago, most of those 3 billion were engaged in growing sufficient food to feed the country's population. The food struggle is ongoing but the cash flow generated from the sale of all the cheap stuffs to other countries gives the Chinese the ability to purchase food goods to feed themselves rather than to grow it.

Almost sounds like the industrial revolution all over again. Farming gets more efficient so fewer people can grow more food thereby releasing labor for a burgeoning industry.

  4. There use to be a time when people appeared in public, their conscience wouldn't let them dress in a less than a well groomed manner. Even if they were just going to the grocery store for a package of margarine. Now, hardly any one seems to care, unless they are expecting to be with someone they want to impress.

True, you see a lot of that in the old movies. Women in dresses and heels, men in suits, dress shoes and fedoras, but like everything in life, things (and styles) change.

  5. Aaron, All I can say is welcome back my brother and I wish you (and your wife) all the best on your (or both of yours) journey of self discovery. In my opinion life, like success, is a journey, not a destination!

  6. In the 70's, I had a pair of high heeled sneakers that looked like Converse tennis shoes with a 4" rubber high heel. I loved them and they were comfortable. I haven't seen a pair similar to them since.

Check Ebay. They are for sale from time to time- even in the larger sizes.

I picked up a size 11 a little while back and often I'll wear a size 12 in a closed toe B width shoe.

  7. Dizzy, please forgive me for not saying that I think those shoes that you just ordered are, perhaps, the ugliest shoes I've ever seen. I won't say that because I might upset you.....And, that I don't want to do.

I, for one, am really glad you did not say it, write it, or even think it!!!

You might have been in REALLY BIG TROUBLE!!! (smile)

  8. It's no more weird than anyone else doing it...

Some cultures can appear more "homophobic" than others. And to many, a man wearing women's clothing (other than earrings- funny how that has changed in 20 years) is considered homosexual.

I am black (African-American) and I believe the African-American, Caribbean, Hispanic and African communities are much less tolerant the the Caucasian communities.

    JMHO

  9. ...Actually, the transfer as the new facility included a pay raise, and since I'm far from rich, I jumped on that with both feet and never had any regrets....

Hope you didn't break a heel!!!

Sorry, couldn't resist!! Congrats (albeit belatedly) on the promotion.

  10. In the beginning, it was just "HIGH" heels- the higher the better. As of late, I still look for the taller heel when purchasing (have only purchased one shoe of less than 4" heel in the last 20 years), but my interest has definitely turned more towards style and/or unique/designer shoes.

  11. The first day I put some heels (boots). I decided to wear them for the day. I was walking to my house from the bus stop when my mate cycled passed, he stopped quickly and asked what the hell I was wearing. To which I responded heels. ( I was crapping myself). He then just looked at me and carried on cycling. I avoided him and his family for ages, in case he had mentioned anything to them. I now see him and his family quite regularly and he hasn't said anything since.

Your "brave" (in quotes because you say you were crapping yourself) remind me of a quote from the first 48 hours movie (starring Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte), "...Bulls**t, attitude and experience will tide us over..."
