How To Pack High Heels For Vegas

going to vegas in a few days, traveling down with my friends, but I got my own room. How would I go about packing some heels? If I put them on a carry on, would they show up in the scanner and would there be a chance were I'd have to show them whats inside? Or should I just check a bag? I feel las vegas would be a great place to wear heels at night, noone would notice nor care.

If you're worried about them being seen in the scanner and then having to open your bag, just check the luggage.  Then there is no problem with security at the gates.

TSA scans zillions of carry-on bags and has seen it all. They're looking for bombs and weapons, not shoes. They usually don't even associate the bag with the owner. You really don't have a thing to worry about. I've worn heels and carried heels through screening many times and nobody cares about them. Just act confident. If you act nervous, they could detect that and pull you out for additional screening.

That is very true. The guy/gal looking at the monitor has no idea whose bag is whose, and as long as he/she doesn't see anything resembling guns, bombs, knives etc - or bottled liquids or laptops you haven't unpacked and put through separately - they really don't care. Why should they?

Put your heels in your carry on bag along with a couple of 1" dowel rods wrapped in aluminum foil about 8" long.  Throw in an old alarm clock, some loose wires, and a 9v battery and I guarantee that TSA will pay no attention to the heels (or anything else in the bag).

I dream of a world where chickens can cross roads without having their motives questioned.

We laugh but I remember at the Sydney airport many years ago a guy coming through security - or trying to - with a Bible, an electric razor and an alarm clock all neatly juxtaposed in his carry-on. Well...he certainly had a lively time of things.

For me, flying with heels (in by bags or on my feet), has never been a problem.  As for Vegas, I will be in Vegas next week, not flying this time - we will be driving.

But YES, Vegas is a great place to wear heels, I have done it many, many times.  Sometimes folks notice and comment (never had a negative experience), but most of the time no one seems to care, or notice.

Have fun, it's Vegas baby !!!   sf

bionicbabe,

I work with several ex-TSA screeners and they have seen it all. Rarely is a connection made to a specific bag and person UNLESS something matching those items above (wires, an enclosed large container, batteries, etc.) were seen on their monitors. Many members here have flown with heels in their bags and/or on their feet and have never had a problem.

Las Vegas, as I've said before, exists for one reason and that is to separate you from your money. They cloak it in entertainment, and food, but it is all predicated upon gambling. Trust me, if you are a woman or a man wearing 6" heels but spending money you will be treated well and will probably have a great time. Las Vegas is about letting inhibitions go. If you wear obvious heels you'll get passing glances as you would anywhere but it will not be negative. People love watching other people there as it is entertaining in its own right. I'd rank Las Vegas with places like NYC, San Francisco, and Paris as a good place for a guy to wear heels. More and more large cities worldwide probably would be fine as well.  Don't hesitate, pack those heels!  HappyinHeels

bionicbabe,

I've traveled a bit and have packed heels for wearing when out of town as my GF doesn't like me wearing heels in my home town.  Basically, like the other posters said, the TSA doesn't care about shoes.  They are looking for thongs that could be dangerous/destructive.  They don't care that when I traveled, one set of shoes are size 11, and the other size 8 (my GF size).  That goes for checked or carry on luggage.  So pack away and to paraphrase Bobby McPherrin's song, "...don't worry about a thing...".

Hey Bionicbabe,

Yup you've got it, no difference between them and other western boots. Mid winter I went down to California and had 3 pairs of heels along, plus one pair I wore.

Had no problems what so ever, so you should be able to do whatever you wish, wear them or put them in any bag.

Have fun, enjoy the freedom Las Vegas has for wearing heels!

Just to back from a few days in Vegas with the wife. We both spent the whole time in heeled sandals. Had a great time, too.

Vegas is one location where you could wear sandals much of the year I am sure. The climate is good for that.

SF if you do not mind me asking, what were you wearing with your sandals? Pants, shorts or something else? with or with out hosiery?

Just curious, I would be bare due to the heat and being from a colder climate if I go now into the heated south. Sounds like a good fun trip SF!

mtnsofheels….   Axe away, I don't mind.  I always wear heels in "guy" mode.    I wear long denim pants or cargo pants with a collared casual cotton shirt when I go heeling.  I don't wear shorts, I just don't like shorts, never have.  No hosiery either, I wear my heels (almost all sandals) barefoot with a neutral pedicure.  Sometime I even wear an anklet and / or toe ring.

I mentioned it in another post, but while in Vegas last week I wore heels the entire time, shopping, gambling, shows, and just walking around, no issues - it was fun.

But unfortunately, there were no other guys in heels - at least I did not see any!!  It is a lonely life - ha ha.  Take care, have fun…  sf

Thanks for your style notes, cool. I too would wear long pants and cooler shirt in heat of Vegas. Unless it is in the fall. I am already in shorts in our area due to heat wave.

Thanks for sharing!
