Platform Removal.

Recommended Posts

Ive been looking for a pair of material patterned boots and I cannot find anything without jack-stands attached to them. So, I figure I will have to modify a pair. In needing to modify a pair, Im not spending over 50$ on them to begin with as if they get screwed up, its no great amount of loss. My concern is in the heel. Maybe Dr. Shoe can chime in with her wisdom? ( Please! ;) ) I believe these might be able to have the chunky part of the jack-stands removed ( they are possibly glued on ) and leave the top parts in place. Shortening the heel itself is what Im questioning. The bottom 2-3 inches of the heel itself seems to be the same diameter. If cut down, the only real worry would be damaging the material that covers the heel itself. The bottom of the toe-box might need some kind of sole to cover where the jack-stand was and I believe a no-slip pad could work in hiding the damage ( if there is any from removing the unwanted part ).

Wrap the heel good with painters tape before cutting. Also pull the toplift (tip) off the heel and check that the depth of the hole in the heel spike. Pull back the covering of the heel to just beyond where you want to cut. Don't cut the covering. Fold the covering over the heel tip glue and trim excess covering then punch a hole for the toplift pin over the spike hole. I bet a floor sander would make quick work of the platform but beware, it may be a ribbed hollow structure inside. Whatever you take off the platform must also be taken off the heel to maintain the proper geometry..

I think we both have the same view on how to go about doing this. :) I dont think it will be a major task so.. I ordered them this past evening. Drugs have me up right now and I needed something to do.. So.. I SHOPPED! :D I need to find out how the platform is on. I do have tons ( physically and weighed! ) of sandpapers from 16 to 2500 grit. ( yes, 16! ) Im sure I can clean up whatever is left on the ( to be ) ' Former ' floor jacked surface. ;)

Good luck on the modifications. Would you give them a road test before modifying? I actually like the way they look as my opinions are different on this boot. I understand yours though. I am curious how they feel before the modifications along with photos and how they are after. Where did you find these beauties and what style/name are they. Lets see, 16 grit sandpaper? Is that what they use to strip macadem before a road resurfacing? :) Ha Ha. Thanks, Jim
