"Bigfoots" Mini-Meet, South-of-London Spring 2004

Calling the "Bigfoot" half of our Heel-Meet fraternity!

This is just an idea. I think us "Bigfoots" (Size 8UK upwards) all enjoyed and benefitted from the visit to Magnus (large ladies' shoes) at our London Heel-Meet last week.

Well, South of London there are three more similar retailers like Magnus specialising in large-sized ladies shoes, all having different ranges. You can investigated each one on the Web:

ELEPHANTFEET, Brixton (Sizes 7 to 13):

http://www.elephantfeet.com

BIGFEET DIRECTORY, Croydon (Sizes 9 to 13)

www.bigfeetdirectory.co.uk/

NINE TO ELLEVEN, Alton near Guildford/Basingstoke (Sizes 9 to 11)

http://www.tallgirls.co.uk/

Once we have got the winter Birmingham and Paris Heel-Meets out of the way, in Spring 2004 I fancy motoring around one day in the Spring to visit those three places (being a size 9 1/2 myself), and I wonder if any more "Bigfoots" would like to join me in me estate car (maximum 5 of us) on this trip?

I thought possible candidates might include Dr. Shoe, Ionic, FGWJon and maybe Skirted UK, but can some of those and anyone else who is interested please post below on this thread giving your favourite day-of-the-week (Saturdays?).

Cheerfully yours, Heelfan

Why wait? I assume stores in Great Britian have "after Christmas" or end of year sales, don't they? Perhaps that would be a perfect time to check out these stores to what they have and to take advantage of clearance sales getting ready for spring and summer styles.

Well Bubba, it's only that we've been hitting it a bit hard lately, with the Oxford and two London Meets having come up in fairly quick succession, with Birmingham and Paris looming, making five in all, plus now my suggestion of a sixth. There comes a time limit on how much strain we can all put on our work-schedules and wives/girlfriends tolerance, not to mention our bank balances! We're already timing the Paris trip to coincide with France's New Year sale period, but I personally think that pacing the heel-meets at sensible intervals is, if anything, more important that feverishly trying to cram them all into the annual short, sharp sale-period(s). Any prospective attenders have any views on the timing of my proposed mini-meet for "Bigfoots"?. Cheerfully yours, Heelfan

You've got it Daz. Anyway, you know when you are organising too many, as no one turns up so it kind of regulates itself :( I probably wont be going to this one, as aside from the fact they don't fit me, I'm not very interested in the styles they have on offer judging by the websitses. 95% of styles seem to be very low and medium chunky heels designed for tall ladies who don't want to be too much taller. There might be the odd higher pair like that cowboy style in magnus, but that seems to be the exception rather than the rule. However, some people like the lower ones, so if that's your thing, go for it.

Firefox, it's all very well for you to knock those three retailers by saying "95% of styles seem to be very low and medium chunky heels designed for tall ladies who don't want to be too much taller", but have a heart, and please understand that for us "Bigfoots", that sort of shop is ALL WE'VE GOT! There's nothing we'd like better that to have the choice that you lucky "smallfoots" have got. It would be WONDERFUL to swan into any ladies shop of our choosing and have the full world of high heels as our oyster. However, all the while the fetish shops and factories are making for bedroom-wear and not for street-wear, all us "bigfoot" streetheelers can do is to visit those three places (plus Barratts and Magnus from time to time) and hope that between them all, the odd higher-heeled and more exciting style crops up. As I say, they are ALL WE'VE GOT! Have a heart for us Guv! Cummon Guv! Cheerfully yours, Heelfan

The only real solution to the "big foot" dilemma is to convince manufacturers that the market is large enough to support making styles with higher heels. Until that is accomplished, the outlook is going to remain dim.

I couldn't agree with you more Bubba, and we are making separate efforts in that direction (talking to the factories etc.) However, can we please get strictly back on topic, because this is the "Real Life Meetings" section and I am trying to use this thread to organise the proposed SPRING HEEL-MEET FOR "BIGFOOTS": Therefore, can any interested "Bigfoots" (size 8UK upwards) please post here if interested in such a Heel-Meet? I wasn't knocking them in particular, just stating a fact :( It's as well to be honest about what type of shoes one can expect to find there. It would be nice if they did a few more styles like the boots we saw in Magnus, but as your friend the shopkeeper said, these styles don't go down well with his ladies.

Yes Ionic - I have. I was unlucky in getting a rather unhelpful telephone receptionist, but assuming she knows what she's talking about, they have no London retail outlet of any sort. Initially I was confused because they call themselves "Nine to Elleven" and also "Tallgirls" now for years there was a "Tallgirls" in London (first in Sackville Street, and later they moved to Blenheim Street) who were a clothes and shoes retailers in large ladies sizes, but I THINK they must have fizzled-out at some stage and that the present firm near Guildford is a much more recent set-up. That's why I was offering to chauffer a small number of Bigfoots around to all three places in my car one day. Can we count you in Ionic? Cheerfully yours, Heelfan

Thanks for confirming that point re: Tallgirls. Until a couple of weeks ago, I was really confused by similar names of two different brands. Not sure yet about the trip. I do fall a bit into the 'nomansland' between the 8s & 9s. Usually I get stranded between the two, so I was rather lucky last week getting something both at the bottom end of the bigfoot range and also then at the top of the standard commercial stuff. /I

OK FGWJon, we'll count you in and I'll post nearer the time suggesting a date and itinerary to see if it is convenient to those coming. Any more volunteers for the trip to those three "Bigfoot" shops? (So far, we have me, FGWJon and a possible Ionic) Cheerfully yours, Heelfan
