You can always check the date that a web page was last reloaded onto a webserver, by trying a HTTP header spider tool to see what is being delivered, or by using a modern web browser like Mozilla which can display the properties (last modified date, etc) of viewed web documents. An old date means that it really is an old page. A new date may mean that it is a new page, or it may just mean that the owner restored an old file from a backup at some more recent time. Try these:

Well, I'm afraid I can't help with any knowledge of my own of London factories other than Leatherworks and TLSB, but I hope those of you who have just been putting your heads together can come up with some positive, up-to-date info. If another factory is found to exist, anyone interested could perhaps pop along there after lunch without eating-into their retail-shop-time too much? Speaking personally, I have never felt driven towards investigating rubber footwear, but then again I suppose I ought to at least have a look at that niche to complete my eduction. Good luck to you factory-searchers in coming up with something concrete one way or the other before the 6th! No doubt you'll keep us posted. Cheerfully yours, Heelfan

I always wondered if, in fact, the people or equipment from MSC went on to be something to do with Leatherworks, but I really have no idea. When I spoke to the people at Leatherworks earlier this year, I got the impression they had been in business for decades, but I am unsure as to how long they have been in Southgate Road. I don't think that MSC were ever connected to TLSB at all. All three are (were in the case of MSC) their own manufacturers, I think. That is what I know. Maybe someone else can join some more of the dots...

Well you are correct, Leatherworks and Magic shoe have always been totally independent of each other and leatherworks has been around for about as long as LSB.

I was almost a permanent fixture in Magic's Mile End factory what with living so close but from what I can gather Terry De Havilland and his business partner Lee had a major falling out and went their separate ways.

TDH and his girlfriend (can't remember her name) were trading out of a unit in Camden stables market but I'm not sure about about Transmuters, could be right because they were selling mainly to Goths and Cyberpunks.

As far as I can see, Pennalagan sell some styles from LSB which has never had any connection to Magic at any time but whether they are linked to Transmuters I don't know.

As far as personel and equipment going to other manufacturers, well if you were making high heels and a large number of high heel lasts came on to the market at a knock down price what would you do? Similarly, if you were short off shoe-makers with that kind of experience where would you look for staff?

Thanks Dr. Shoe! So can you tell us what the latest situation is? I.e. In the London area, apart from the group's existing destinations of Leatherworks and TLSB, is there anyone else actively manufacturing "our" stuff that you know of? Cheers, Heelfan

I posed a question about Underground Shoes above. Does anyone know what became of them?

There also used to be a shop called something like Covergirl in that general area, who also sold to the Fetish and TV/TG community. Anyone know what happened to them too?

Thanks Jo, but Cover Girl Shoes is probably no longer relevant to the forthcoming Heel-Meet, although they supplied my with many pairs of shoes & boots in the past. From the 1970s, they moved from Westbourne Grove to Upper Street, Islington and then after the death of (Pam?) the proprietor, two of her lady assistants carried it on at a shop in Cross Street, Islington, and more recently still, seemingly withdrew to a private house elsewhere in London for appointments only, but I could not even find that only my latest brief web-search tonight. They were never actual manufacturers - most of their stuff was made for them by The Little Shoe Box which is now has its own retail showroom at the front of their factory. So for actual factories worth visiting on 6th November, it still seems to be the two already mentioned on the itinerary - Leatherworks and The Little Shoe Box. Cheerfully Yours, Heelfan

Prego Jo! I have, in fact, posted similar information on Cover Girl Shoes before somewhere on these Megaforums (fuller in fact, because I gave their most recent address, the private house address). But the trouble is, Megaforums has now got so darned big and complex that something likt that would take a while to find! Cheerfully yours, Heelfan

Not actually as long as you'd think...

Go to the Search function and enter the term: Cover and Girl and London

It returns 9 matches:

http://www.hhplace.org/hhboard/viewtopic.php?t=1969&highlight=cover+girl+london

It even highlights the search terms in the thread so you can find HF's information quickly, but as he says, even that could now out of date.

No Daz, no need for any confusion whatsoever, I'm pleased to say! I have continuously kept updating both of my posted Itineraries (one near at the start of this thread and one further down on 24th October) to accommodated the subtly evolving plan which now seems to have finalised to satisy a a common concensus. Forget the rest of our foregoing waffle and simply refer to either of those two identical schedules! Cheerfully yours, Heelfan

I did apologise that this was a disgression, as we don't have forked threads on this forum, and generally about other possible manufacturers in and around London. I certainly don't intend additions to the schedule, the two planned visits are quite enough for one day. Custom builders and charity shops down Upper St. are probably for your own time. _ Back to the digressing discussion: on the last meetup when we passed through Camden Market right at the end of the trading day, we did stop and chat next to a glass case containing samples of Transmuter boots. The shutters were down mostly but they must be there for a reason. The shop refering to the Magic Shoe Co. might just have had one item of very ancient stock they were auctioning off but it is odd otherwise. The Goth boots people therefore look as if they are using several sources then, again someone must be making those Transmuters. Perhaps LSB do make the straight non-platform stilletos but they are on 4.5" rise lasts which is not an LSB shape. The platform boots don't look like any obvious source. There are two important designs one last has a 1" rise with male sizes and one last has a 2.5" rise some with male sizes. They have the leather quality work of Leatherworks but who knows. There are a few more on a 3" rise last, no male sizes, they must come from yet another source. It is quite complicated. /I

Yes, and this has implications as to how you interpret their sizing system if you order by mail. /I

What I do is ask who the supplier is and you usually know if one manufacturer's sizes fit you or not. For example, I know that Ellie styles in size 12 are a perfect fit whereas pleasers tend to be a little tight.

Dear FGWJon, Hi Shipmate - Welcome aboard! If the last two Heel-Meets are anything to go by, we can promise you a great time in London! I can meet you at Paddington Station when your train arrives at 9.35am because I will have just breakfasted at my hotel which is just round the corner! Have you a mobile? I will be carrying mine - 07966 450583. That would help us meet up, especially in the event of a delay. I will be recognisable from my heels, but at that early stage in the day they will probably be fairly innocuous blocks which needn't embarrass either of us too much! Then we could go by tube or taxi to Kings Cross in good time to join the main party before they move off at 10.35am. Don't worry - heels are not compulsory! Even some of the keenest wearers often bring a little bag for changing up or down into lower heels or flatties. Great to have another enthusiast joining the group! Post again if you have any queries, or if you don't have a mobile to use for the Paddington meet-up. Cheerfully yours, Heelfan

I agree Heelfan. As huge an enthusiast for been as eager an anyone to wear my highest heels as often as i can get them on, ive the usual history of been a last minute chicken, and will probably end up arriving in my trainers myself, changing into one of two pairs of stilettos im bringing. Should be more fun than trying to be quiet in rubber heels like last time, it takes out half the fun! PS has anyone had the time to contact leatherworks/LSB with our visit intentions, it would be a disappointment to be refused entry on arrival. I hope our group will bear with me as i may have a potential purchase in mind :( Daz

If I do manage to come I will probably be carrying my trainers as I cannot leave the house in heels out of respect for my daughter and her peers.

RIGHT THEN EVERYONE! With only four days to go, here's probably the final plan. Can I suggest everyone bringing with them a print-out of this to refer-to?: 9.30 FGWJon arrives by train at Paddington Station and is met there by Heelfan (using their mobiles to meet - 07760 398002 and 07966 450583 respectively) before proceeding to King's Cross. 10.25 AM Daz arrives at Kings' Cross Station, and joins the already-congregated group on Platform 9 3/4 (yes, it really exists!). 10.30AM The group departs on a short, shared taxi ride to Leatherworks. 10.50 AM (approx) Visit Leatherworks factory until departure by shared taxi at about 11.50am. MIDDAY (approx) Visit The Little Shoe Box factory. 1 PM Lunchingtons (Munchingtons/Boddingtons). 2 PM to 8 PM Retail shops (Thursdays is London's late shopping night!). At this point we might split into two groups- the "Smallfoots" to do the best of thge ordinary ladies' shoeshops and the "Bigfoots" to do the few specialist retailers who cater for large ladies shoes in size 8 upwards. 8.25 PM Daz's train departs from King's Cross to Birmingham. He asks whether others can stay-on until around this time. ATTENDEES: Daz, Firefox, Ionic, Xaphod, FGWJon, me and we hope Dr. Shoe. Emma (not Emma J Nation) is coming, but didn't say whether this is to the London Meet or the Birmingham meet. Jo can't make it, but maybe one or two lurkers (such as John and Simon) might turn up again. Anyone delayed or lost normally rings Firefox's mobile: 07941 172043. I'll also take my new mobile: 07966 450583. This revised schedule can still be varied on the day, of course. Thanks to Daz for the initial idea, and LET'S HAVE A GOOD ONE! Cheerfully yours, Heelfan

Calling all Thursday's London Heel-Meeters: Daz, Firefox, Ionic, Xaphod, FGWJon (and me of course) and mayble Dr. Shoe, Emma, John and Simon and any lurkers!: Everything is in place. Ionic and myself have notified the two factories that our group will arrive there at 10.50am and 11.50am respectively as per our schedule. (Incidentally, Andrew from Leatherworks tells me that they now do a non-fetish round-toed chunky heel shoe in men's sizes - might interest street-heelers perhaps?). Good news: The long range weather forecast for this Thursday 6th November is GOOD. Let's hope the updated forecasts don't change that for the worse as we approach Thursday! ISLEBEESEEINGYUH! OK, and I can report that I've popped into TLSB to check arrangements and drop off a pair of X10s to try and stretch the toe box a little bit - total agony otherwise.

It is fine and they are expecting us but he does go off to lunch at 1pm pronto, so we have to be disciplined and get there on time. If anyone is actually waiving cash and seriously buying I guess he will give allowances.

I picked up a fresh catalogue but it is virtually unchanged on one a decade old. He said they are hard at work on their web site to do away with the need for a catalogue.

_

200 yards up the road from there is Showgirls/Zeitgeist, a twin shop mainly fetish esp. female chothing. Perhaps of doubtful interest for this group. I mention it because they do have a fair number of shoes including some large sizes. The unbranded ones were obviously TLSB ones but others were less determinate, a lot were labelled 'Stephanie' on the insole. Lots of thigh boots and glass platforms of course.

Anyway, they are open too, should anyone need a mini-skirt or basque...

Hi Guys, I would really like to come for the day, but work is just TOO hectic to take the day off, however, If your staying in the area for boddy's I can slip outa work for a couple of hours (near Finsbury Park) and have a beer with you. It would be great to put faces to the names. I'll give someone a call round 12:45 to see if you've decided where your drinking and if close I'll join you. Shame for work to get in the way of pleasure, but someone's gotta dig the ditch!! TTFN TB2

Are you confusing me with someone who gives a damn?

Don't worry Firefox, I think lunchtime is cut off point on the schedule for anything that might be mainly categorised as fetish.

Thighboots, why don't you just hop one tube stop down to Highbury at 12.30pm+ anyway and have a quick peek at TLSB. There is some real beer a few doors away perhaps somewhere to pause before lunch, you need'nt be away more than an hour and a quarter. Indeed Firefox & Co. may find this more congenial than the shop itself!!! :(

Relax, they only have 30 min lunch break. At least they did back when I did my work experience there.
