Platforms? Just for Tarts or Not?

I have worn heels since my early teens, and have recently been given a pair of rather outrageous platforms......I struggle in them but was amazed at how sexy they made me feel......I never really thought much of them as you are somewhat restricted in what clothes you can wear with them....so far I worn them on holiday with swimsuit or shorts.....but feel a little guilty at appearing to be tarty. present b/f loves them,,,,,,,,Are my feelings unique? Suzy

I can see the sexy appeal of some of the lower platforms. Like, maybe half an inch or so. But anything extreme is certainly tart territory. I think the idea is that the platform is not enchancing the female curves any more than a non plat shoe, but it is drawing attention. It is almost as if your regular stiletto pump is a sex object in a way, and the platform is a charicature of that, with exaggerated features. (I know I have a word wrong in there someone) It over states the obvious, and draws extra attention. And I think this is why the platform shoe has picked up the association with being a tart. it doesn't help that the adult industry has used such shoes on many of their female stars, thus linking such shoes to pornography more than other areas of society. If you like them, if they feel good, wear them. If the bf likes them, then wear them when you are with him. That is all that matters. Just because society might feel like giving you a name based on the shoes, doesn't mean you shold stop wearing them. Just enjoy. And just don't expect me to wear platforms. heehee :(

The platforms a 1.5" solesand about 6+ on the heel in black, really a pair of fun shoes I was just suprised how they made me feel when wearing them. I'd like to wear them when on holiday in Florida by the pool but don't want the locals to think I'm in the sex industry! Thanks for the comments so far, being new on site it will take me time to get to know you all. But I want to get rid of the horrible rookie boot. Suzy

I love my platform heels! I can dance in them all night long and my feet are never the worse for it. I have them in all different colors and in 6" and 7.5". I'm a tall girl too! but no one has ever seemed to mind that. I think it has more to do with your level of comfort and presence. A "tart" would give off a "tart's" impression. Either that or I just really care so little what other's think of me that I've never noticed, lol. XO Babe in Heels ps....... :bday: to me! Hi TXT-1, I have found that just a mule or a sandal in 7.5" can be difficult anywhere outside. I have no trouble with my ankle boots on outside surface. The support about the ankle helps quite a bit. Hope that helps hun XO Babe in Heels

Platforms just look a bit ugly and chunky to me. I have two pairs but just can't to bring myself to wear them out. They do feel more comfortable to wear somehow, they don't seem to hurt the balls of my feet as much.

I have to disagree with you there guys as i certainly think platform are NOT tarty. For sure they have quite a reputation as they are the shoe of choice for many a poledancer or lap dancer but it all depends what you wear with them.Ive happily been out in 2inch platorms with 6inch heels under my jeans....quite a funky look actually.:santa_hat:

I personally prefer a platform 2" or less for wear in public. Any more and I feel it is a bit trashy or 'tart', and it is also a bit more of a challenge to walk in. For at home when I am not walking as much a higher platform is okay. And if you are on holiday, who cares what people think? Have fun with it.

Platforms are undeniably more tarty as are polished metal heels, clear heels and thigh boots.

They're all justy a bit too sexy if you know what I mean.

True enough, if you're on holiday it hardly matters. lol:winkiss:

isnt it ironic that the people who call them "stripper shoes" are the same ones who wear knee high boots...Now every female is wearing knee high boots...knee high boots before were often worn by prostitutes. so were pumps..and people now wear them! those pin up girls who were considered "provocative" wore peep toe shoes u cant take a shoe and label it after someone...like strippers or whatever.

The short answer to the question is: no, not just for tarts. I certainly wouldn't see a woman in platforms and think she was a tart. Personally, I rarely wear platforms, I think I have maybe two pairs with a 1" platform or so - they are quite comfortable actually. But it's just not the look I prefer, I think it's more difficult to look altogether elegant and feminine in them. (As an aside I think some of the extreme platforms you do see on strippers and in porno just look a bit silly and not sexy at all) But hey, that's just me. And anything's better than flatties, that goes without saying lol.

I love platforms, and I have four pairs of shoes with a 2"platform/6" heel, although I've never worn any of them to anywhere other than clubs. My opinion may be a little biased though, as I go to goth/industrial clubs where they're not seen as extreme. I wouldn't count myself as a tart, so no, I don't think they're jsut for tarts.

I think i depends on the platform shoe. Some with the lower platform don't look 'tarty' but some are more extreme and look like something that goes with a costume or 'stripper heels'. I have wore both out to clubs and stuff and pay attention to what people notice. I am just very observant in general. The lower platforms don't really get a lot of glances, but the pair I have with the higher platform and clear heel always get some glances and stares.

Does anyone ever Email anymore? Send me one! I like to chat!

I love my platforms like the one in my avatar, most are of a similar style, normally plastic and either see-through or brightly coloured. I love these and wear them as much as poss in the bedroom and I will be the first to admit they are tarty. I think that's what turns me on though.

Not for tarts. The shoes that have up to 1 1/2 inch platforms seem acceptable to most people. I have a pair of pumps that have a 3/4 inch platform that is concealed. They are super cute. If you like them, wear them and enjoy them. Life is too short to be worried about what strangers are thinking.

Anything around 1.5" is fine and almost doesn't count for me. I have so many like this, some of which conceal the platform (my New Look shoes and Louboutins) and some of which make a real effort to show off the platform like my YSL Tributes where the platform is quite a big feature. Neither are anywhere near being tarty. Obviously platform stripper-style shoes are but I think it has more to do with the colour, material and style of the shoe more than the platform that makes it tarty.
